It was my birthday last Thursday. I decided to celebrate by inviting a few friends out to supper. I chose a restaurant in a quiet part of town. It is one of my favourite restaurants because the food is good and the waiters are friendly. so it is not usually necessary to book a table. In any case, Thursday is not a busy evening as before.

. I looked around but no table was free. One of the waiters recognized me. He came across and explained the situation. "A party of tourists came in about half an hour ago," he said. "It was like an invasion(侵略) . Suddenly the place was full! We can hardly manage(对付,应付) . "

The waiter then pointed to a table in the corner. "The people there are about to leave. " he said. "Just hold on and you'll find a place there. " He was right. Fifteen minutes later, the people at the corner table paid their bill, got up and left. I led my friends across and we all sat down.

. We tried to call the attention of the waiter who sent us there, but he, like all the other waiters, was busy with the party of tourists. They ordered lots of food. At last, an hour later, the tourists were finishing their meal and looking very satisfied with life. The waiter, now very tired, appeared at our table.

A few moments later he returned to our table. We could tell from his face that he had bad news for us. "All we can offer you, "he said," is an omelet(煎蛋卷) !"

A. Unluckily, our table was almost out of sight.

B. I advised my friends about the best dishes and finally the waiter went off with our order.

C. The waiter was in a hurry.

D. It is hardly ever crowded, because not many people know about it

E. When we entered the restaurant, we were surprised to find it completely full.

F. Looking a little sorry he told us that there was no meat or fish.

G. All the waiters went out happily after having meals.

举一反三
Future and Today
It is well known that everyone has his own dream as well as his own future. But do you know what future really is? I have to say that future is now. That is to say we must treasure every minute now. If we want to have a bright future, we should know how important time is and use it well.
There is an old English saying:“Gain time, gain life”Then what's time? Time is something that we can't see or touch, but we can feel it passing by. Time is always with us. When we are at table, time passes; when we play, time goes by unnoticeably. We always say “Time is money”, but time is even more precious(珍贵的) than money, because when money is spent, we can earn it back. But if time is gone away, it will never return. So, some of us even say time is priceless.
We should always remember: future is now. For us students, we should try our best to work hard in order to create a great future of our own. We should make the best use of every hour and be the master of today. We should do everything before us as well as possible. And never put off what can be done today till tomorrow.
As we all know,“Time and tide wait for no man.”If you waste today, you will regret tomorrow. So from now on, work hard. Tomorrow will be better, and your future will be brighter. Remember:“No pains, no gains.”Today's hard work is the cause of tomorrow's harvest.

A famous scientist made some great inventions. A newspaper reporter asked him why he thought he was able to be so much more creative than other persons. What made him so successful and different from others?

He said it all came from an experience with his mother when he was about two years old.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} when he lost his control on the bottle and it fell, pouring the milk all over the kitchen floor — a sea of milk!

His mother didn't shout at him, instead, she said, "Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made!{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Well, something bad had happened. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?"

Indeed, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, "You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, you have to clean it up{#blank#}3{#/blank#}? We could use a sponge(海绵)or a towel. Which I do you prefer?" He chose the sponge and together they cleaned up the spilled(溅出的) milk.

His mother then said, "You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to carry a big milk bottle with two small hands.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} and see if you can find a way to carry it without dropping it." In the end, the little boy learned how to carry the bottle without dropping it. What a wonderful lesson!

A. Let's go out and fill the bottle with water

B. What really have you done

C. He tried to move a bottle of milk from the refrigerator

D. So, how would you like to do that

E. I have never seen such a huge pool of milk

请将左栏5个人的遇到的紧急情况和右栏七个不同的急救方式进行配对。

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Sally often takes a banana to school for lunch. She often puts a banana in her bag in the morning, and when she opens the bag at noon, the banana looks as if someone drove a car over it.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Rose wants to know whether her breath smells nice or not? But it's difficult to know, because it's very hard to smell the air that comes out of your own mouth.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}John used to have a watch that can tell him the time and temperature during the day. However, it doesn't work these days and he wants to buy something that can be worn more easily.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}It is reported that many people die as a result of breathing smoke or from cooking over wood-powered or coal-powered stoves. Anna wants to buy a cooker to avoid this problem.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Bruce often reads the news about food safety from newspaper, magazines or TV. It has great influences on people's health. He wants to find something that can help him check whether the food is safe or not.

A. Apple Watch

It can not only tell you the right time and the temperature. It also has a set of technology that can collect a lot of health data. It can record your every movement and even tell you whether you sleep well or not.

B. Alarm Fork

Well, this special fork has two lights: one green and one red. When the green light is on, it's OK to take a bite of food. The fork "knows" when you take a bite, and soon the red light goes on. Wait for the green light before you take another bite.

C. Smell This

Smell This is useful for you to make sure your breath smell nice or not. Smell This covers your nose and your mouth, so it is easy to smell the air that comes out of your mouth.

D. Banana Suitcase

Are you worrying about the banana in your bag? If you put your banana in the Banana Suitcase, it can keep a banana safe, delicious, and looking like a banana!

E. "Sol-4" Cooker

The cooker is also much "friendlier" than other cookers because it produces less smoke and the user would be less likely to have breathing illnesses from harmful smoke.

F. Time Temp Glasses

These special glasses show the time above your right eye and the temperature above your left eye. It is surely easier than wearing a watch, and you never have to guess the temperature.

G. Kuaisou

The new chopsticks, called Kuaisou, are able to pick up a variety of readings on food freshness, acidity(酸碱度) and nutrients (营养). They allow people to take food safety into their own hands through an app on smart phones.
