    Believe it or not, there is no such a thing as standard English. Many people think the English speaking on TV and the radio is standard English. This is why in the very early days of radio, those reporting the news expected to speak excellent English. When people use words and expressions different in the "standard language", it is called a dialect. Geography also plays a part in make dialects. American English has such many dialects because people have come from all over the world. The USA is a large country that many different dialects are spoken. Although many Americans move a lot, they will recognize and understood each other's dialects with difficulty.
