Life today has brought about new problem. One of the biggest problems of every nation is pollution. In America, there are laws {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the air and water clean. These are new laws and it has taken much time{#blank#}2{#/blank#} a polluted river or lake. Now the fish are healthy again and people can enjoy {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in the clean water. 
   When food is brought from the store to the home, it is packed in paper, glass, or plastic. Every day a newspaper comes to the home. Americans use {#blank#}4{#/blank#} all these materials in the garbage which was picked up by a large truck. The truck these materials to a garbage dump or a land-fill. The truck dumped the garbage into a large hole and then earth was pushed over the garbage until the hole was filled. Then, a new hole must be found.
As the years went by, the garbage increased as the population {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . Scientists suggested using some garbage again. They advised businessmen {#blank#}6{#/blank#} money by recycling or using paper, glass, and plastic again.
   Now, a recycling truck comes to each home once a week {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  up materials. American families are told {#blank#}8{#/blank#} their newspaper in boxes and clean all glass, and plastic. The truck takes them to factories for recycling.
   Recycling is a way {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the environment from pollution by {#blank#}10{#/blank#}  many materials again.

    On the day of the interview, I got up at 6:00 in the morning. I got to the interview place without {#blank#}1{#/blank#} breakfast. I was the sixteenth interviewee (应聘者) and the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was a short ordinary-looking girl. I nodded to her. I asked her where she graduated. "I didn't graduate from a famous college," she told me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a low voice.

    I didn't expect the interview would last so long. As I didn't have breakfast, my stomachache came to me. I had to sit by the table for a rest. Just at that time, the girl came and asked me what happened. I told her, "I didn't have {#blank#}4{#/blank#} this morning, so I had a stomachache."

After a while, a worker came in and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} me a bottle of milk and a piece of bread. It was certain that they were bought by the girl. I felt warm all over my heart because I hadn't imagined she would be so nice to help me一her rival(竞争对手) .

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, I got the job. The first day I went to work. I was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to see the girl there. She also got the job. Later I asked her why she got the job. She said with a smile," That day when I bought you the food and came back, an interviewer saw me and asked {#blank#}8{#/blank#} I took the food in hands. I told him the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. Then I got the job." At that moment, I came to know that when the girl helped me, she also helped{#blank#}10{#/blank#}.

    Helping others will benefit yourself as well.

    Now we meet Fantine. She is young and beautiful, and in love with a man in Paris. But she {#blank#}1{#/blank#} no family, and no money.

    Men are not kind to {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. The man in Paris walks away, and leaves poor Fantine with a little girl {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Cosette. Fantine must find work, but {#blank#}4{#/blank#}?

    Fantine has a child but no husband, and a woman without a husband is nothing. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} than nothing. People are not kind to a woman with a child but no husband.

    They turn their faces away, they close their doors, they say, "There's no work for a woman {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you."

    Fantine likes her daughter {#blank#}7{#/blank#}, but what can she do? So, in 1818 in a village near Paris, she leaves her little daughter with Monsieur and Madame Thenardier. They ask for seven francs a month. Fantine {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the money, holds her daughter in her arms for the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} time, and leaves. She takes the road for her home town, and tears are {#blank#}10{#/blank#} down her face.
