高中英语-_牛津译林版-_高一上册-_模块2 Unit 2 Wish you were here

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Life is just like a box. Inside it are happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in it teach us new lessons and make us a better person.

    Love

Love plays a key role in our life. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could become cruel and violent. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with unconditional love and care. They tell us what is right or wrong, good or bad. .It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to the feelings of others. Kids make a person responsible and mature and help us to understand life better.

    Happiness and Sorrow

Materialistic happiness is shortlived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile on others gives a certain level of fulfillment.  .No mind is happy without peace. We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow. Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure and despair. But these things are temporary and pass away.

    Failure and Success

.It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way.

    Hope and Despair

Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. , because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same. We have only one choice—keep moving on in life and be hopeful.

Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is beyond our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be right or dull. , so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

A. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour

B. So the only alternative is work hard today

C. But we always tend to take this for granted

D. Success lies in trusting yourself

E. So let's enjoy every day

F. Failure is the path to success

G. Peace of mind is the main link to happiness

任务型阅读

Your life is composed of all the little things we experience everyday, and knowing how to find joy in some of those little things is one of the easiest ways to let happiness slowly fill your cup. In order for that to happen, you need to do two very simple things, put yourself in such situations that you can experience happiness there, and then find a way to savour the experience and let it sink into you.

To put yourself in the position of experiencing happiness every day, Lahan Catalino, Ph.D, at the University of California, San Francisco, recommends an approach called “prioritizing positivity”—organizing your day-to-day life on purpose so that it contains situations which naturally give rise to positive emotions. It involves both carving out time in your daily routine to do things that you really love and heavily weighing the positive emotional consequences of major life decisions, like taking a new job, and you will regularly find yourself.

Then how can we find away to savour the happy experience and let it sink into you? Here is what psychologist Rick Hanson, the author of Buddha's Brain explains.

Let a good fact become a good experience.

Often we go through life and some good thing happens—a little thing like we checked off an item on our To Dc list, we survived another day at work, the flowers are blooming, and so forth. Hey, this is an opportunity to feel good. Don't leave the money lying on the table: recognize that this is an opportunity to let yourself truly feel good.

    Really enjoy this positive experience.

Practice what any school teacher knows: if you want to help people learn something, make it as intense as possible—in this case, as felt in the body as possible—for as long as possible.

When sinking into this experience, sense your intention that this experience is sinking into you.

Sometimes people do this through visualization, like by sensing a golden light coming into themselves or a soothing balm inside themselves. You might imagine a jewel going into the treasure chest in your heart—or just know that this experience is sinking into you, becoming a resource you can take with you no matter where you go.

It might seem a little cliche to say“stop and smell the roses”, but it's moments like those that can be stored in your happiness bank and withdrawn later. Living a happy life can be as simple as accepting the happiness that's already around you. If you want more, it's OK to go out and achieve it, but don't forget where happiness really comes from.

    Healthy habits that stick

Here are five rules that helped me develop good habits.

⒈Pick habits you honestly want to have

I didn't choose habits I thought I should add because of what anyone else was doing. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It was about listening to myself.

⒉Build your habit your own way

When I started to build up an exercise routine(习惯), I only went when I wanted to go. For me, that was around 2 pm every day. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If I wanted to do 20 minutes on the bike, I'd do only 20 minutes and then leave.

    ⒊Start small

I knew that if I tried to take on too much, I'd find a way to make an excuse. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} I started with two minutes of exercise, which were finally built up to 10, then 20 minutes. I realized that just doing something, no matter how small, meant I was more likely to do it again the next day.

    ⒋Be kind to yourself

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} When I got a cold and missed several days of exercise, I didn't beat myself up. Instead of punishing myself, I tried to love myself — and that had a more enjoyable and lasting effect.

    ⒌Celebrate every small victory

When I began keeping a diary every morning, I put a number in the corner of each page to show how many diaries I had written. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Finally, after I filled up a notebook, I celebrated buying a new notebook.

A. If I missed a day, I let it go.

B. I can make exercise less boring.

C. So my daily purposes were very small.

D. I celebrated my pen running out of ink.

E. It wasn't about keeping up with other people.

F. I should celebrate my success with my friends.

G. It also meant that I would do whatever I wanted to do once I got there.

About one hundred years ago many educated people learned and spoke French when they met people from other countries. Today most people speak English when they meet foreigners. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} There are more people who speak English as a second language than people who speak English as a first language. Why is this?

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} One of them is that English has become the language of business. Another important reason is that popular American culture (like movies, music, and McDonald's)has quickly spread throughout the world. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Is it good that English has spread to all parts of the world so quickly? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It's important to have a language that the people of the earth have in common. Our world has become very global and we need to communicate with one another. On the other hand, English is a fairly complicated language to learn and it brings its culture with it. Do we really need that?

Scientists have already tried to create an artificial language that isn't too difficult and doesn't include any one group's culture. It is called Esperanto. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Maybe the popularity of English won't last that long either. Who knows? There are more people in the world who speak Chinese than any other language. Maybe someday Chinese will be the new international language.

A. People like English.

B. But it hasn't become popular.

C. It has brought its language with it.

D. There is no doubt about the question.

E. This is why English was widely spoken.

F. It has become the new international language.

G. There are many reasons why English has become so popular.

A. In fact, you're just doing your job.

B. So you have no choice but to trust them.

C. Americans cannot get along well with Asians.

D. It just doesn't work that way with Asian people.

E. Americans are very different from Asian people.

F. You can do anything you want but don t disrespect an Asian man.

G. If you don t understand their culture, you will get some problems with them.

There is a large percentage of Asian people in the US. They're hard-working, respectful but strange sometimes. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Asian people are different from people in any other cultures. If you think you know them, you might want to think again.

How are they different? When it comes to most Asian culture, respect is everything. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If you don't show proper respect for him, you will get some real consequences afterward and especially if he's your boss. It's something called face saving in the Asian culture. It's ridiculous sometimes but it's their culture. Sometimes their culture can come in between their relationship at work. Asian people might expect a lot of respect from their co-workers when their co-workers just see them as an equal.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you re Asian, you might want to understand the American culture and even adapt to their culture if you work with them. It will be easier for you since you re in their countries. Imagine an America working in China, expecting Chinese co-workers to get along with him when he criticizes them straight out on every single matter in front of everyone, I think they will take him outside and take care of him. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

If you're an American boss giving your Asian employee a review, you will see that they will have a problem with your negative remarks. They will think that you don t like them, disrespectful, and want to get rid of them. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Of course, it's not fair for you as an American boss but just expect that it can be something that is on your Asian employee's mind.

It's hard when a best friend isn't around—maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} You want to have new friends, but how do you make? Maybe it seems that everybody else already has his or her friends.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you'd like to play with at break. Look for chances to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Invite someone to play with you or say "Do you want to sit here?" in the lunchroom. When you're at break, walk over to kids you want to play with, act friendly, and say "Hi, can I play, too?" or just join in.

If you have trouble doing this or if you're feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Be kind, be friendly, share, say nice things, offer to help—and pretty soon, you'll have one, or two, or even more new friends.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} But when you see each other, you can share something you didn't have before he or she left: You can introduce him or her to your new friends!

However, a growing body of research shows that multitasking is not as productive as it appears. It turns out that when most people multitask, they don't actually focus on more than one thing at a time.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}But changing your focus constantly uses mental energy that could he spent working. It also causes you to take longer and make more mistakes. In addition, it creates stress. People who try to multitask often end up feeling more anxious and less peaceful than people who don't.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}A very small group of people-about two percent of the population-excel at multitasking. These people, called supertaskers, are able to work on several things at once without their performance suffering. But experts caution: supertaskers are very rare.
