Edison had quick mind about inventions, but not always about other things.

    One day he received a notice. It said he must pay some money to the government by the next day. If he was late, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Edison went to the city office. Many people were waiting there in line to pay. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, his mind was busy with ideas about a new invention. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, the man behind it said to Edison “Young man, what's your name?”

    Edison looked at the man in surprise. “ I don't know,” he said.

    “Then I can't help you,” the man said, and told him to leave.

    Other people paid the money, but Edison stood there, and tried to remember his name. The day ended, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    In the street, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. He had to ask the friend what his name was.

    In August, 2012, I visited London with my husband(丈夫) and our two sons Sam and Eric. We spent four days visiting some interesting places and enjoyed ourselves. The fifth day, I wanted to relax at the hotel. But the children didn't like it. So I carefully thought about how we would spend the last day. I read a passage about HMS Belfast in a magazine. In fact, I was not very interested in visiting a warship(战舰), but my sons and their dad liked it. So we decided to go there.

    The weather was sunny that day. We left our hotel at 8：00 a.m. It took us about two hours to get to HMS Belfast. Children under 16 were free of charge(免费)．The price of the ticket for an adult (成年人) was ￡14.The warship was very large. We took some photos there. Sam was interested in everything on it and said it was the most interesting place in London.

    In the UK, bus journeys are very common. Buses are often convenient(便利的）for the people who live or work in the city center. Passengers can avoid heavy traffic and do not have to pay for the parking. However, taking the bus is just a necessary but boring part of life: they get on the bus, pay for it and sit down or find a place to stand when it is crowded. Everyone seems sad and bored. 

    In Latin America, however, bus trips can be wonderful. For a start, films are showed on the buses between cities for passengers to have fun along the journeys. Local buses do not show films. but drivers usually turn on the radio and it can be great for passengers to listen to songs and get relaxed. 

    Even better than films and music are the sights and sounds on the buses. Local buses always go to parts of the town that passengers would not visit by themselves. There passengers can see shops that they have never heard about. And they can also see other cultures of the town from the windows of the buses.

    Besides passengers' luggage(行李)is also interesting. It is common to see a happy dog's head getting out of somebody's bag or a lovely chicken "speaking cheerfully "under somebody's arm. Once on a bus in Peru a farmer even tied a sheep to the top of the bus. It was quite surprising.

    In all, taking the bus in Latin America is really fun and unforgettable.

Li Ming's birthday

    It's Saturday today and it's Li Ming's birthday. He is twelve years old. Li Ming is very happy because he gets lots of presents from his family and friends. Now let's see what they are.

    His parents have a birthday party for him. Li Ming's mother makes a birthday cake for him. It's big and delicious. He likes music very much, so his father gives him a ticket to a concert.  His uncle gives a book to him as a birthday present.

    He likes it very much. His sister Betty sends him a birthday card and she makes it by hand. And his friend Tom gives him a football. They often play football after school. Li Ming likes these presents. They sing Happy Birthday together and have a good time.

    Twenty years ago, my father, John, wanted to be a businessman. He wanted to be rich. So he worked very hard and every day he went home very late.

    One night when he came home from work, a robber stopped him and wanted to take his money. My father was very afraid. He didn't want to lose his money. But he didn't know what to do. Luckily a policeman came and caught the robber. My father thanked the policeman politely.

    Now my father is a policeman. He wants to help other people.
