Thumbs Down to Texting （屈指发短信）

       Do you have a mobile phone? Do you send text messages to your friends and family?

       Text messaging or “texting” is becoming very popular. But, scientists have discovered that texting can give us problems with our hands. Be careful! Too much texting can cause swelling in our thumbs. Our thumbs were not made for pushing small buttons, over and over. Scientists call this problem RSI. We spoke to a doctor called Harriet Wilson, who treats many sick people with RSI. She says we need to see how much time we are spending in typing text messages. If we are spending more than 10–15 minutes at once, we could have problems in the future.

       As mobile phones develop, they are getting smaller with buttons closer together. Texting with a smaller phone is worse than using a larger phone with bigger buttons. Using a computer keyboard and playing video games can cause the same problem. So more and more people could find themselves with RSI. Among them, most are university students and teenagers, as they do not know the risks of spending so much time using computer, video games and mobile phones. If we don't do something about this, too many young people could grow up in terrible pain.

    Nothing is more important than health and happiness. But how can we live a healthy and happy life? Here are some ways for you.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. They supply rich and the necessary vitamins for us. We also should eat less meat and junk food everyday.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Swimming, running, skating, dancing, walking and some other activities can help you keep healthy. You should exercise at least three times a week and for twenty minutes or more each time.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} It is best to get about eight hours of sleep a day. It is hard for our health if we don't have enough sleep. You can get sick from not getting enough sleep.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It stops you from having bad habits. To keep yourself busy, you can walk around the house, spend with your pet, watering flowers, cleaning the windows and so on. Do anything you enjoy.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Spend time and have fun with them. Talk with them, but don't talk about anything bad. You should stay with the people who are healthy and happy.

When you are sick, you can hardly go to places, see friends or do sports—it's not fun at all. So, follow these steps to get better quickly.

    Unhealthy food can make you even sicker. Eat healthy food Iike fruit and vegetables when you are sick.

    You can use a soft, warm blanket and stay in bed. Drink hot water or have soup to help keep you warm.

    Medicine can help the body when you are sick. If your doctor has given you some medicine, be sure to take it.

    You need about eight to nine hours of sleep or more when you are sick, so be sure to get enough sleep at night.

    Go outside on a nice day to get more fresh air. Take a book with you and do some reading while you enjoy the sunshine.

Michael: I perform in the evenings, but luckily I don't have to get up early. So in the mornings I sleep in, and then practise on stage for 45 minutes. I have to do a lot of exercise before each show.

Michael: Because it's like a dream of flying. When you do a great performance on the trapeze, it's an unbelievable feeling.

Michael: Working at such a high level every day.

Sometimes you wake up with a stomachache, but you have to perform.

Michael: You need to be strong to deal with physical training. You mustn't be heavy, or your partner can't catch you easily. You can't be at all nervous when there are 5，000 people watching you.

Michael: We get paid per show and the amount depends on your contract（合同）. Of course，we can set extra money for extra performances.

    Now students' English handwriting(书写)gets worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful?{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Use paper with lines

    When you write English words or sentences, you can use paper with lines. That will make your handwriting straight.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Be sure to fill the lined space completely. And make sure these capital letters (大写字母) are written properly.

    Slow down

    If your writing is hard to read, just slow down a little.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}If you write too quickly, it's hard for you to stop where you should, and you may make more mistakes easily.

    When you hold your pencil in the correct way, writing is much better. Some kids press down really hard when they write. That makes the handwriling bad. Try to be relaxed and don't hold the pencil so hard. Let your writing appear nice and clean. If you do so, people will guess you are a student with a good habit.

    Draw more pictures

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}While you are drawing pictures, you need to use the skills to cuntrol (控制) your pencil better. Even though you have no chance to draw at school, you can practice by drawing at home.

    Handwriting is very important. Imagine you are a famous movie star or a well-known sports player, whad do you do when your fans run up to you? Givethem your autographs (亲笔签名) , of course!

    "They always give the bigger piece to the other person." said his aunt at once.
