阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

One morning, little William was taking the bus to school. As usual, the students were doing all sorts of things on the school bus, like chatting with friends, listening to music, or just staring out of the window. Meanwhile, William was watching news reports on his phone. It was about 10 minutes before he would get off when he heard a loud noise. Some students in the front were screaming, and Willam, surprised, looked up to see what was happening. He found that the bus driver was no longer in his seat. He had passed out and fallen onto the bus steps.

The students were scared and didn't know what to do. William, however, had received bus safety training in Grade 5 and had learned how to use the bus' two-way radio in an emergency.

Now, in the face of danger, he quickly jumped out of his seat, grabbed the radio, and reported that the driver needed immediate help. The radios on other buses allowed the bus driver's workmates to hear William report the emergency. Soon, another bus driver and an ambulance arrived to help.

When they got there, the bus driver was awake, sitting up but unable to speak. They sent the driver to hospital. After the incident, William and everyone else on the bus went to school as usual.

William used what he had learned to help a sick bus driver get quick medical treatment. His brave actions attracted a lot of attention. People in his hometown now call the 11-year-old a hero. A local TV station even interviewed him, although he didn't want to be the focus of the public.

At first, Michael Surrell didn't see the black smoke or flames shooting from the windows of his neighbors' home. He and his wife had just parked around the corner from their own house in Allentown, Pennsylvania, when they got a call from one of his daughters: "The house next door is on fire!" He went to investigate. That's when he saw a woman crying desperately on their porch.

"The baby's in there!" the woman cried. Though the fire department had been called, Surrell, then 64, instinctively ran inside. "The baby" was 8-year-old Tiara Roberts, the woman's granddaughter.

Entering the burning house was like "running into a bucket of black paint," Surrell says. The thick smoke caused him to stumble blindly around, burned his eyes, and made it impossible to breathe. The conditions would have been dangerous to anyone, but for Surrell, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (慢性阻塞性肺病), they were life-threatening.

After a few minutes in the smoke-filled house, he retreated outside to catch his breath. Surrell knew he couldn't hold his breath for long. Taking a deep breath, he went in a second time. The darkness was overwhelming. Yet because the house had a similar layout (布局)to his, he found the stairs and made it to the second floor. He turned to the right and was met by intense heat. He was already out of breath.

His throat and lungs burned as if he'd breathed in fire instead of the smoke and soot in the air. Every blink stung his eyes. All he could hear was the crackling and popping of burning wood. Then a soft but distinct moan (呻吟声) emerged. Still unable to see, Surrell fell to his knees on the hot wood floor. He crawled toward the sound, feeling around for any sign of the girl.

A friend of mine whose name was Martin Brown had a bad memory, which made him really famous. He was so forgetful that he sometimes forgot what he was talking about in the middle of a sentence. His wife had to always remind him about his appointments, his classes or even his meals! Since Martin was a professor at a well-known university, his forgetfulness often caused him a lot of trouble. It wasn't that he was unintelligent, as some critical people tended to say, he was just very, very absent-minded.

One hot summer day, Professor Brown decided to take his children to the beach. The seaside town he planned to visit was about a three-hour train ride away. To make the trip more interesting for his young children, he decided to keep the name of the town secret. Unfortunately, by the time Martin had arrived at the train station, the poor forgetful man had forgotten the name of the town. Luckily, a friend of his happened to be in the station. He offered to take care of the children while Martin went back home to find out where he was going.

The professor's wife was surprised to see him back again so soon, but she laughed when she heard what was the matter. She distrusted his memory, so she wrote the name of the town on a piece of paper. Satisfied that she had solved the problem, she sent her husband off again. Ten minutes later, she was astonished to see him outside the house again.

There was something in the elderly woman's grace that caught my eye. Although slow and unsure of her steps, the woman moved with deliberation (从容), and there was no hesitation in her gestures.

It was a few years ago, and I had taken a part - time holiday - season job in a video store at the local shopping mall. From inside the store, I could see the people outside rushing by.

The elderly woman entered the store, along with her daughter, who was displaying a serious case of impatience, rolling her eyes, sighing and checking her watch every few seconds. I guessed if she had possessed a rope, she would have fastened it to her mother to drag her along to keep step with the rush of other shoppers.

The elderly woman separated from her daughter and began to seek through the DVDs on the nearest shelf. After the slightest hesitation, I walked over and asked if I could help her find something. The woman smiled up at me and showed me a title written on an old piece of paper.

Rather than rush off to locate the DVD for the woman, I asked her to walk with me so I could show her where she could find it. Looking back, I thought I wanted to enjoy her company for a moment.

Something about her deliberate movements reminded me of my own mother, who'd passed away the previous Christmas. I missed my mom and still felt regretful about the moments when I'd used my impatience to make her life unhappy.

As we walked along the back of the store, I introduced its floor plan: old television shows, action movies, cartoons, science fiction. The woman seemed glad of the unrushed company and casual conversation.

We found the DVD and she thanked me, saying that it was the one she'd enjoyed when she was her daughter's age. Unwillingly, I accompanied her to the cash register, realizing I had to return the elderly woman to her daughter, who was still tapping her foot at the front of the store.

Paragraph 1: As the elderly woman was waiting in the queue at the cash register, I walked over to her daughter.

Paragraph 2: Together they made their way toward the store's exit.

My family moved from Taiwan to a small town in central Georgia, where my dad got a visa for his family and a job. I had just learned English, and from what little I could gather from my friends, Santa Claus would come down one's chimney(烟囱) and put toys in one's stocking on Christmas Eve! What a great country, I thought. After I looked up "stocking" in my Chinese-English dictionary, I knew what I had to do and always expected that day.

Finally, the big day came. On that wonderful night, after everyone went to bed, I sneaked out of bed,  took my longest, cleanest knee sock and attached it to a nail(钉子) already on the mantel(壁炉). Obviously the previous owners of this house were no strangers to this Santa character. Staring at the sock and imagining the delicately(精致地)-packed gift in it, I couldn't help giggling(咯咯笑). For the first time, I found it hard to fall asleep.

And for the first time, I woke up before everyone else in the early morning. Then I headed straight to the fireplace and was even ready for what to say after seeing the gift. However, what happened next was the least thing I wanted to mention. On the nail was the empty and lonely sock. I was hit with the reality of the empty sock and the biggest lie ever told. I tried my best to hold back my tears but failed. Bursting into tears, I quickly took down the sock and stuffed it in the back of a drawer.

Every December since then, the topic of Christmas memories would unavoidably come up, and I would amuse my friends with my poor-little-me story. I had to make it as funny as possible, or else I would cry once again. I didn't know whether any of my audience ever noticed the sparkling tears hidden in my eyes.

How could I know that Santa was just late?Nine years ago, on Christmas Eve, I heard a knock on the door when I was watching TV. Unwillingly, I dragged my feet(拖着脚步) and opened the door.
