Is Society Too Dependent On Technology?

    Just think, what would happen if your computer, iPad or laptop crashed today? What if someone took away your phone for some days or perhaps you lost it? If thinking about these incidences makes you stressed, you are not alone.

    Most of us cannot go for a minute without looking at our phones and the fear of the battery dying is huge. If you happen to work in offices you may be familiar with this trend.  Anyway, it's true. How can work continue if it's hard to send an email to a colleague or customer? This is common in almost all offices.

     Those evening games after school are over; watching cartoons on a Sunday or playing with friends are no longer there. Today, most kids remain indoors playing computer games or with a smart phone. Technology has taken all their time.

    Society may have gone too far in technology dependence. It has become so huge that doctors have recommended for "technology detox".  If not, according to Oxford Dictionary, Technology Detox is a period during which an individual avoids using any electronic devices including computers, smart phones, etc., as a chance to reduce stress and focus on social interaction in the outside world.

    Well, the choice remains in our hands. We must agree that society is being carried away by the increased inventions being introduced in our lives today.  Meanwhile, we should have the discipline to turn it off when we are supposed to experience life in reality.

A. Perhaps you may have heard of it.

B. We appreciate technology since it has its benefits.

C. If the Internet is down, all the tasks are over for the day.

D. Technology addiction is sure to cause social problems.

E. Today, most people are becoming dependent on technology.

F. Here are some signs that our generation depends too much on technology.

G. Kids used to spend a lot of time with each other or parents playing or just sharing stories.

    Are These the Best Years of Your Life?

    The ups and downs of life may seem to have no predictable plan. But scientists now know there are very clear life patterns that almost all people share. Even if you have passed some of your best years, you still have other good years to come.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    When are you smartest? From 18 to 25, according to I. Q. scores; but you are wiser and more experienced with increasing age. You're sharpest in your 20's; around 30, mental abilities begin to decline, particularly your ability to do maths.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Your vocabulary at age 45, for example, is three times as great as when you graduated from college. At 60, your brain possesses almost four times as much information as it did at age 21.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}You have the best physical sense of yourself from 15 to 24, when you feel energetic all the time. The best professional sense seems from 40 to 49. Before age 24, we believe that our happiest years are yet to come. Over 30, we believe that they're behind us. A National Health Survey agrees: After age 30, we “become more realistic and do not view happiness as a goal in itself. If we keep our health, achieve professional and emotional goals, then happiness, we feel, will follow.”

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Generally between 30 to 39, but the peak(顶峰)varies with different professions. Mozart wrote a symphony by age eight, and Mendelssohn composed his best-known work, A Midsummer Night's dream, at 17, but most of the great music was written by men between 33 and 39. Though the peak in most fields comes early—most Nobel Prize winners did their top research in their late 20's and 30's, creative people continue to produce quality work throughout their lives.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. When are you happiest?

B. When are you most creative?

C. But your ability to complete other tasks climbs.

D. The above gives you an accurate figure.

E. Certain good years seem to come later in life.

F. For people who are creative, there is no upper age limit.

G. The human life journey cannot be charted by a clear life pattern.

    A good training partner can be a great asset (有用的人) to your training but if you get stuck with a bad one, it could lead you down the road to frustration. Be selective when choosing a training partner. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Open mind. Get a partner with an open mind.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} In every partnership, one person will tend to be the leader. The leader should take into account the needs and feelings of the other partner not totally ignoring them.

    Spotting. Get someone you feel comfortable with spotting you. One of the main roles of a training partner is spotting and if you don't trust them, there's not much point in having them around to help.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you are a beginner, try to find someone who knows what you are doing. You will get more out of your training than if you train with another beginner.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} In the end, it is really up to you whether or not you need a training partner.
