Lauren quit her job {#blank#}1{#/blank#}a chef and chose a different profession. She wanted to travel to different destinations and posted pictures {#blank#}2{#/blank#}her blog. Later she decided to become Australia's first {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(profession)photo blogger. She first {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(visit)Western Australia for work in 2013. Since then she {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be)in love with northern WA and has been back six times. Lauren enjoys the beautiful landscape as well as the indigenous Australia. Due to her deep love for nature, she tries to take every opportunity {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(get)outside and admire the natural world in Australia. She also enjoys photographing the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(rise)sun and animals, such as dolphins and kangaroos. Lauren really hopes to use her photography to make {#blank#}8{#/blank#}impact on people. For example, one of her photos shows a crocodile that is used to passengers {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(throw)food from boats and is becoming familiar with humans, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}could make her a danger to local people over time.

In 2011,a law was born.A kind of ladybug(瓢虫)became the state insect of North Dakota.When the governor 1 the bill into law,four kids stood behind him! 

Jaden,Logan,Megan and Isabel were in first grade 2 their idea for a law was born.Megan and Logan were farm kids and they had been 3 with the ladybug already.They knew that farmers had difficulty in controlling crop-eating pests called aphids and that ladybugs tended to 4 on aphids.The more ladybugs were around,the fewer 5 the farmers had to use.

They decided that this ladybug should be their state insect.This ladybug was of great 6 to the crops on the farm and deserved a place of honor.But they had no idea how to 7 a law.So they asked help from their teacher,who happened to 8 their local state representative.When they all met,he told the kids they would have to present facts and reasons to 9 lawmakers that North Dakota was in need of the ladybug as the state insect.

The students spent much of that first-grade spring 10 ladybugs.There was no doubt that their research was hard work 11 ,they fell in love with it."Even if we hadn't achieved what we wanted," says Jaden,"even if the bill hadn't been passed,I think it was really 12 a lot."

In the fall of their second-grade year,they were invited to speak to a committee.In 13 ,Megan wrote songs for the group to sing,they contacted more experts for support,and they practiced their presentation a lot!They showed up at the state building in ladybug costumes and presented their case.14 ,the bill was passed! 

The students want everyone to know that kids can make a 15 "Whether you are 8 or 80," says Isabel,"you have a voice in your community(社区)."

Don't ignore (忽略) the difference teenagers can make.

John Michael Thomas, 14, Florida

When John Michael Thomas decided to honor his friend and classmate Elizabeth Buckley, who died from cancer, he remembered how much she loved peacocks (孔雀).

He wanted to build a life-sized peacock fountain (喷泉) in Elizabeth's favorite park in the city. He thought it could be a place for people to relax and be inspired.

John Michael raised $52,000 to build the fountain.

Barrett England, 13, Utah

The wheels began to turn for Barrett England when he heard about Karma Bike shop, a place where young people can earn free bikes by reading and performing community (社区) service.

Barrett visited Karma's owner with his idea: He would collect and repair used bikes and donate them to the shop.

He expected to get about 10 donated bikes. In the end, Barrett received 39.

Zachary Blohm, 15, Wisconsin

The 25-year-old playground at an elementary school near Milwaukee, Wis. was so small that only 70 of its 575 students could play on it at a time.

That's when Zachary Blohm saved the day. He and some volunteers wanted to build a huge playground. To raise money, Zac planned T-shirt and bake sales, sold tickets and more. He held monthly money-raising events for more than a year. Overall, he collected $130,000 — enough to finish his project.

Jack Zimmerman, 16, New Jersey

For some people, finding a meal is as simple as opening the refrigerator. For more than 366,000 hungry kids in New Jersey, it's not that easy.

That fact didn't sit well with Jack Zimmerman, who organized a drive to lessen childhood hunger in his state. His goal: create 40,000 packaged meals that could be donated to those in need.

On game day, Jack and his volunteers started their work. After the final count, the team had packaged 47, 124 meals—well above Jack's goal.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), China's leading aircraft maker, created the country's first fully solar-powered drone (无人机). The large drone, Qimingxing 50, took off at 5:50 pm on September 3rd, 2022, from an airport in Yulin of Shaanxi Province and stayed in the air for 26 minutes before landing on the same runway. AVIC said that all systems of the unmanned plane functioned well on its first flight.

Powered by six electric motors with solar batteries, the drone is designed to conduct long-time operations in near space. Near space is that part of Earth's atmosphere at altitudes of 20 to 100 kilometers. It is above the top altitudes of commercial airliners but below orbiting satellites.

Qimingxing 50, also called "quasi-satellite", features high operational efficiency and eco-friendliness and will be tasked with high-altitude reconnaissance (侦察), forestry fire monitoring, atmospheric environmental inspection, aerial mapping, communication signal relay and other operations.

"Thanks to its capability to conduct very long endurance flights in near space, the drone can essentially become a substitute for satellites," a Chinese aerospace expert said. Satellite services are not always available due to the limited number of satellites and relatively fixed schedules of overhead passes. In time-sensitive missions, near-space drones can offset these disadvantages, the expert said, noting that satellite services could also be damaged in wartime, so near-space drones could replace them in this occasion.

The successful first flight of the Qimingxing-50 lays a solid foundation for the development of key technologies in the country's new energy field, the composite (复合的) material field, which will enhance China's ability to perform tasks in near space and over far oceans. AVIC will seize the opportunity to increase investment and speed up the development of large solar-powered unmanned aircraft.

 Lindsey Stallworth, a high school student from Alabama, is on her way to a promising career in paleontology (古生物学) due to an unexpected discovery on family property. For years, she had been collecting fossils on their land in Monroe County, unaware of significant scientific value. However, her teacher at the Alabama School of Math and Science, Dr. Andrew Gentry, a paleontologist himself, took an interest when she showed him her collection.

" Upon examining the fossil shark teeth Lindsey presented, I quickly identified one cr: became eager to learn about its origin," said Andrew.

Lindsey guided her teacher through the rural area where she had unearthed various relics, including shark teeth. Before long, they encountered an especially significant find on the. grounds:a large bone from a 34- million- year- old whale skeleton! This led the pair to launch the huge project of uncovering the rest of the bones. After two months of hard work, they' ve managed to find the animal's skull·(颅骨),

" Assuming the entire skeleton is present, it may require several years for us to have the entire animal back in the lab," Andrew explained.

 Lindsey secured a research scholarship to persist in her fossil- digging expeditions alongside her instructor. Her enthusiasm for the project was at an all- time high, though she had never imagined a childhood pastime would lead her down this road." We would go out and pick up shark teeth and fossil shells, but we never knew anyone that could tell us anything about them," she recalled." We just thought they were cool."

" The Research Fellows Program allows Lindsey to gain real- world experience in scientific research and even present that research at professional conferences," Andrew said." It's a once- in-a- lifetime opportunity for a high school student to stand out when applying to college and maybe even discover a new career path."

In 2014, Amy collapsed from a brain hemorrhage (脑溢血) while working. After a year recovering at home, she 1 a course with the ambition to become a 2 .

However, occasional vision disturbance was still 3 , influencing the amount of 4 she could give to the course. Further complications (并发症) left the young artist almost completely blind, making it difficult to see a whole figure. It's particularly 5 because it seemed to 6 her optimism to be a painter! 

One morning, when watching the sunrise, she suddenly felt a sense of 7 . She realized that she may not 8 a whole face anymore, but it shouldn't stop her from putting what she could see on canvas (画布). The following years, she 9 her special art journey.
