Dad's Advice

    When I finished my school education, I began to find a job. I was very happy because it was time to make my dream come true.

    One evening, my father talked to me about what kind of 1I should look for. He wanted me to work for a big company and asked me to take his advice. But I really hoped to be a teacher. It was my dream. I didn't accept his 2. We shouted and didn't talk to each other. Even worse, I found it more and more difficult for us to say sorry as time went by.

A week later, I decided to break the 3 and make the first move. So I dialed (拨打) my father's number and began talking in a low voice, "Dad...I am 4. I shouldn't argue with you that day!"

There was a silence at the other end. After a while, he 5 in a low voice. "Well, that's all right, honey."

I was surprised, and raised my voice a little, "Dad, I understand why you don't want me to be a teacher, but to be a teacher is my dream job. I hope you can also 6 me."

From the other end of the line comes my father's answer, "Sorry, honey. I shouldn't force you to accept my idea. You have your own dream, I should 7 you."

    A few weeks later, my mother told me that my father had been ill for half a year. He would get an operation (手术). The operation was successful. My father was saved and 9 escaped (逃离，逃脱) death.

    Many times I feel lucky that I 10 the first step to say sorry to my father. I can't imagine how I can live the rest of my life if my father didn't have a successful operation.

   Mrs Wilson, the middle-aged wife of a rich businessman, invited some of herfriends to lunch. She was very anxious to try a new way of cooking a fish dish,and she was very pleased with herself when the dish was ready. As the dish was very1, she put it near the open window to cool it for a few minutes.2,five minutes later, when she came back for it, she was frightened to find her neighbour'scat, Chester, at the dish. Luckily she was3to stop the cat from eatingthe fish. That afternoon was a great success and everyone enjoyed the dish verymuch.

   At the end of the afternoon, while she was4,Mrs Wilson felt tired but happy. She was in an armchair just near the window, whenthrough the window she was surprised to see the neighbour's cat5inthe garden. Why, the fish dish must be poisonous (有毒的). What would happento her friends? She at once phoned the family doctor for advice. The doctor toldher to telephone each of the visitors to meet him at the hospital as soon as possible.Finally, the danger was6. Once again Mrs Wilson was alone in herarmchair in the living room, still tired but7happy.Just then, the phone rang. It was her neighbour. "Oh, Millie, her neighbourcried, "Chester is dead. She was killed by someone in the car and thrown inyour garden. "

I Find Myself Really Good

Our school did a survey among 1, 250 students on the topic of "I Find Myself Really Good". 

In Xi'an, there are special sidewalks for the phubbers ( 低头族 ). Different people have different opinions on it.

Once a father and his son were going on a journey. Father gave his son a small

1 to carry. It was late evening. They walked through a hard footpath. Father found it 2 to walk with the moon light, so he told his son to light the lamp.

"Father, oil will 3 soon if we light lamp now. Let us walk some without lamp." Son replied. Father said4 and they continued walking.

It became completely dark Father said, "Son, you 5 light the lamp now." Son lit the lamp and held it 6 Father said, "Son, hold it higher so that we can get better view of road ahead." Son replied, "But father if I hold it high, it will

be7 . by the wind. So let me hold it low." Father again didn't say anything.

Both father and son were 8 . Just a while later, son almost fell down. Then father said, "Now hold your lamp high. We will be able to see path 9

Son held the lamp high and the path was brightened. Now, they were able to cross the path easily. Son 10 that their journey was hard because he didn't hold the lamp high.

In some parts of the world, children don't have enough food to eat or enough money to buy clothes or shoes. Every year at Sunshine Middle School, we do something to collect money for these children. This year we will have a Market Day. 

The Market Day will fall on July 8. We are going to make the student center at our school look just like a big shopping center! People can come at any time from 9:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. and buy every- thing from clothes to books, cakes and flowers. 

Luckily for us, many volunteers (志愿者) will help prepare for the big event. Last year, Ms. Grant and Ms. Ali made some wonderful cakes for our charity. They will do it again this year. Bill Thomas will visit Bookworm Bookshop and Mel's Music Shop and ask them to give us things that we can sell at the event. Philip White will e- mail all the teachers and ask them to come to our event. Alice Brow n will put a message online telling the public the event is open to everyone. 

However, there is more to do, and we need your help. We want you to give us things that we can sell- books, old clothes, anything that we can sell to collect money for poor children. We also need some student volunteers to sell the things we get on Market Day. 

With your help, we will certainly have a successful Market Day!
