In the US  Summer vacation starts in early June and ends around late August. Teachers will give summer homework. There are many classes and camps for middle school students. They can be about sports, cooking, boating or outdoor skills. Some students will try to make money by doing housework, such as babysitting or mowing the lawn(割草坪) for neighbours. Some will also do volunteer work, such as helping old or poor people.

    In the UK  ①Summer vacation starts around June 24 and ends on September 3. In Scotland, teachers hardly give schoolwork to kids to do during the summer. So, many of my friends and their families like to travel abroad.

    In France Summer vacation usually goes from mid-June to the end of August. French students don't have any homework or extra classes over the summer. Some students like travelling around the world. ②They see nature in Africa or visit English-speaking countries to learn English. Other students have fun in France. They go to the beach, see friends and watch movies.

    In Australia Summer vacation starts in late December and ends in early February. During the vacation, students have to finish their homework. They should read and write reports on three to five English books. They also need to work with their classmates to do science projects. Australian students often go to special interest classes during the vacation. They learn singing, cooking and so on.

    Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 in Canada．He was a determined little boy who never liked to miss a day of school．Fox enjoyed playing baseball and basketball very much in his free time．In secondary school he won the Athlete of the Year Award． He wanted to be a physical education teacher．

    Terry Fox's future changed in 1977 when doctors told him there was cancer in his right knee．To stop the spread of cancer, doctors amputated (截肢) most of his leg．Fox learned how to use an artificial leg, and three weeks after the operation, he was walking．

    Terry Fox made a plan to raise money for cancer research by running across Canada．His goal was to raise $1 from every Canadian．People said it was a crazy idea but Terry could not be stopped．He started his running on the Atlantic coast in Newfoundland in April 1980 and planned to finish on the Pacific coast in September．

    The people of Newfoundland were welcoming and generous．Fox was treated to many meals at people's homes．A small town of 10,000 people raised $10,000．Fox ran about 45 km each day．He ran through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario．As he ran he gave speeches about cancer and how the money he collected would go to finding a cure for cancer．The 8,000 people in the town of Gravenhurst donated $14,000．By the time he ran half-way across Canada he had raised $11.4 million．

    At the end of August he thought he was getting a bad cold and stopped running for a few days．Doctors said the cancer had come back and was now in his lungs．Terry went into hospital for treatment．People kept donating money．There were 24 million people in Canada in 1980．Over $24 million had been raised by February 1981．Terry had met his goal．The treatment did not cure Terry． He died on June 28, 1981．That September, the first Terry Fox Run was held in Canada．Terry Fox Runs are now held yearly in 60 countries and millions of people have taken part．More than $ 360 million has been raised for cancer research．The donations for cancer research don't stop．His dream lives on．

    Another popular tool for finding a job is the Internet. For example, people around the world can use the Craigslist Web site to buy things, meet people or find a job.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

    Another useful way to find a job is through a university. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Many college students like this way better.

    At times, some experts(专业人士)can also help people find a job. Susan Miller has her own company called California Job Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find a job by first helping them understand their strengths, goals and interests. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} So with her help, many people have succeeded in finding a good job.

Hip Hop Class

    The Fullerton Community Centre is putting on an exercise class set to the sounds of hip hop music! It's great fun for anyone who wants to get fit to hip­hop！We'll exercise to disco and funk music as well. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 8 and cost 30 euros a month.

Kids' Talent Competition

    Are you good at dancing, singing, playing a musical instrument or making people laugh? The kids who are 10—16 years old are invited to take part in an exciting talent competition at 2 p.m. on Saturday, 6th August at Clearwater Shopping Centre.
