Mr Jackson began his trip last Saturday. Two days later when he was travelling in the country 1 , he saw a dog behind a man. As the car came near them, the dog suddenly started to2 the road. Of course the car hit the poor animal and killed it.

    Mr Jackson 3his car and walked to the man. "I'm very 4 that this happened," he said. "How much shall l 5? Will ten dollars be enough?"

    "Oh, yes," said the man, "ten dollars will be 6 enough." Mr Jackson put his hand into his pocket, but he only 7 five dollars in the pocket. "Sorry, sir, I've only8five dollars," said Mr Jackson.

    "No problem. That's enough," the fat man replied. "Thanks a lot. That's very kind of you." Mr Jackson thanked the fat man and 9 away.

    When the car went away, the fat mart looked down at the dog and thought, "I want to know 10 dog it is."

    Once upon a time, there lived an old lion in a forest, One day, the lion found himself too old and could not look for food on his own. He thought he would soon die. He was very sad and went home.

    When he walked home 1 , he told a bird about his sad situation(情况). Soon everyone in the2 heard about the lion's story. The other animals all felt 3 for the lion too. So one by one they came to visit the lion. The lion looked old and weak, but it was very clever. When each animal came into his home, they were easy to 4. So the lion had food and soon he became strong again.

    One day, early in the morning, a fox came. The fox was very clever, too. He slowly came 5 the lion's home Standing outside, he asked. "How are you, my friend?" "Hello, my best friend." said the lion. "Is it you? I can't see you well. 6you are far away, Come in, please, Because I am old and weak, I can't go out, I think I will 7soon. "

    While the lion was talking, the fox was looking carefully down at the 8in front of the lion's home.

    Finally the fox9, and said. "I'm sorry, but I must go. I am very 10 because I see the footprints of many animals going into your home, but I see no one coming out again! "

Albert Einstein was a world famous scientist. He was born in Germany and later lived in America. He was best known for his theory of relativity（相对论）. This theory changed the way we understand space and time. Einstein had wild hair and always looked deep in thought. He always reminded us to keep asking questions.

One day, a young man asked Albert Einstein what the secret of success was. The scientist told him that the secret of success was hard work. A few days later the young man asked the same question again. Einstein was very "annoved". He did not say anything, but wrote a few words on a piece of paper. On the paper it was written: A=X+Y+Z.

"What does this mean?" asked the young man.

"‘A' means success." explained the old scientist. "‘X'stands for hard work, ‘Y' forgood method（方法）and ‘Z' means stop talking and get down to work."

My dad bought me a new Jeep when I was 17，but the real gift was what he taught me about life through this car. very month, on the first day, he asked me to pay him $150 if I wanted to continue driving my Jeep. If I didn't pay， I couldn't drive my car（or "his car"，as he often reminded me（所有权））.My dad was（and still is）a successful businessman，＄150 was more than I usually made every month.I had to work harder. Although I was unhappy about my father's request，I always made sure to give him ＄150 on the first day of each month.

The day I graduated from high school，my dad pulled me into his office at our house for a talk.

"Kevin，"he gave me a white box and said，"here is your graduation present. To be honest，this is actually a present you gave yourself."I opened the box carefully，and almost started crying when I realized he just gave me ＄3，600! It was 24 car payments that he had saved for the last two years.Every payment I gave him went straight into this box.By asking me to pay him every month，how to use my money and how to be responsible.My dad is and will forever be the best man I have ever known.

Four years later he gave me the title to the Jeep，as my college graduation gift.

Some people say that young people today often think only of themselves. It's not true at all, more and more young people in the USA volunteer (当志愿者) to spend their school holidays working for others. And they don't do it for money. Here are some of their stories. 

Alice Hamilton, 17

I'm going to help the Forest Center build new hiking paths (徒步小径) in the mountains. It's going to be wonderful. I will spend the whole summer living in a tent (帐篷) and breathing the fresh mountain air. I'm going to sleep under the stars. It will be a nice sport, and I will be able to do some- thing good at the same time!

Jason Moore, 18

This summer I'll volunteer with Special House Program. They build good, low- cost houses and sell them to the poor. They'll teach me what to do, so I am going to help people and also have a chance to learn how to build houses. 

Trish Anderson, 16

I'm going to teach children who have difficulty in reading. I'll work for a program called Reading for Life. Every day, I'm going to help children choose and read books that they like. I want to be a teacher and I love children and reading, so this is going to be a great experience for me.
