2017年广东省深圳市27校联考中考模拟英语试卷

阅读下列短文,从下面每题的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案。

Do you dream of the day when you can drive a car? In the United States, teenagers can get their driver's license when they are only 16 years old, but it feels like forever until that day comes. Trust me, because I've been there.

Getting a driver's license takes a lot of time and energy, but it's worth it because it means having a lot more freedom. I'm from the rural state of Iowa (爱荷华州) that doesn't have a lot of public transportation, and everything is really spread out. So until I turned 16, my parents had to drive me pretty much everywhere.

There were several steps before I got that special plastic card. In Iowa, everyone can get their learner's permit at the age of 14, which means you can only drive if your parent is sitting in the seat next to you.

The next step was getting my school permit at the age of 15. In the state of Iowa, if you live more than a mile (1.6 km) away from school you can get a school permit. But you can only drive to school and back home. Luckily, I lived just over a mile away from school, so I was able to drive my mom's car to school. But if you were caught going outside that route (路线) you would get in big trouble.

Finally, after taking and passing a three-month-long driver's education course and the final test, I was able to get my driver's license. I could almost taste the freedom already, and it did make life quite a bit easier.

(1)、What does the writer think of getting a driver's license at the age of 16?

A、It's useless to have a driver's license at that age. B、It gives her freedom to do everything she wants. C、It helps a lot in her daily life to have a driver's license. D、It's not worth so much energy to have a driver's license.
(2)、If a girl has a learner's permit in Iowa, she ________.

  a. must be at or over the age of 14     b. must be at or over the age of 16

  c. can drive everywhere in the US     d. can drive when there is a parent sitting beside her

A、a c B、b c C、b d D、a d
(3)、If you live 1 mile away and have got a school permit in Iowa, ________.

A、you can only drive your parent's car B、you can only drive a mile every school day C、you can only drive inside your school D、you can only drive to school and back home
(4)、From the last paragraph, we know that ________.

A、every 16-year-old can easily get a driver's license B、you don't need to take the course if you can pass the test C、the driver's education course and the test take three months D、you can get a driver's license after taking a three-month course

When we look at a picture of Earth from space, there are areas of green, blue, and white. Most people will recognize(辨认) that the green island, the blue is water, and the white is clouds. Taken as a whole, Earth is mainly blue. That is because of the amount(数量) of water it has that covers the surface.

So, how much of Earth is water? About 71% of Earth's surface is covered in water. Of that 71%, the oceans hold about 96.5% of the water. The water found in oceans is all salt water. The remaining 3.5%of the water is fresh water, which can be found in lakes, rivers, glaciers(冰川), and in the ground. Freshwater is what people use for farming, raising animals, drinking, and daily activities such as taking showers and washing clothes or dishes.

Does the amount of water stay the same? For the most part, yes. Water on Earth is part of a closed system. That is, water is always moving and changing forms between ice, liquid, and gas. The form of the water changes all the time, but the total amount of water on Earth remains the same.

If Earth is not necessarily running out of water, why are people worried? Why do we need to think about saving water? First, humans can only use fresh water, which is only about 3.5% of all of Earth's water. Second, of this 3.5%, only about 1% is available for human use. Most fresh water is found in glaciers far from where anyone lives. Third, the amount of water that is useful for humans is being used faster than it can be cleaned and put back into the environment.

Now, knowing the facts about water, it is our job to make sure we use Earth's water in a good way.
