In today's world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even lose their lives for it. Money does have its most useful effect(影响) on the poor, but once a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn't mean more happiness.
If money was everything, all millionaires would have true love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always true.
Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words which are "I love you". But can love be bought? I'm afraid not. Love means to give, not to take. To every person, health and long life are probably the most precious(宝贵的) things. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is "No".
Of all the longest living people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can't be bought either. In a word, where money is worshiped(崇拜), money can cause brothers to quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.
Where do you usually study on the weekends? Some students like to study in the library while others prefer to study at home. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Many students find the comfort of their own space helpful for studying. A familiar environment can make it easier to manage stress. You have all your things around you, and you don't have to think about lunch. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} There are a lot of advantages to studying at home.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Your comfortable bed may keep you from paying full attention to your studies. Don't use a place of rest as a place to work. If your bedroom becomes a place for both, your brain may do both tasks poorly.
Libraries are specially built for reading and studying. There are lots of helpful books, and you can form a study group with other students. But libraries also have their disadvantages. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It can be hard to get a seat, and there may be noise.
It can be difficult to decide whether your home or the library is a better place to study. Some experiments(实验) are needed. Take a task like reading. First, try studying in your living room. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} After each experiment, take notes to describe how you feel and how well you are able to focus. This way you can discover your preferred study environment.
A. Which is better for studying? B. However, it's not without problems. C. For example. they are often crowded. D. There are many places for students to study. E. Then read a different part of the same book in the library. F. You can study day or night, and you can rest whenever you want. |
DearDr Jackson, My parents are never pleased with me. They are always criticizing(批评) my clothes, my hair and the music I listen to. They ha te my friends' looks and they keep complaining when I go with them. I'm not allowed to stay out as late as my friends do, so I can't have any fun. My parents only seem to care about my school marks. Although I love them, sometimes I feel we live in different worlds. If they love me, why don't they understand me? Angel |
Dear Angel, Your problem is common to both teenagers and parents. Don't worry, because all this is natural. You see, your parents have grown up at a different time and they have different experiences. So, they think some things are strange, but you find the same things ordinary. For example, the music you like may sound like noise to them. Your parents love you, so they feel they must protect you from whatever they find strange. On the other hand, you don't want to be different teenagers, so you feel that your parents restrict you. I think you should talk about this problem with your parents. Try to explain to them what you want and make them know they can believe you. Sooner or later, they' ll find you are a responsible(有责任心的) person and they will give you more freedom. Dr Jackson |
