One day, when Bill was walking home from school, he heard a 1 coming from the bushes(灌木). He went over  2 what it was. Behind a bush, he found a black dog. Bill went back home as soon as he could with the dog and 3 her to his parents. Bill's dad found that the dog had 4 leg, so they brought the dog to a doctor for animals 5 car. On the way Bill's parents decided that Bill could 6 the dog if they couldn't find the owner of the dog.

     When they arrived, the doctor checked the dog. He told Bill that she was going to have 7! The next day, Bill 8 signs like "FOUND DOG BACK" around his neighborhood. He also wrote his family's phone number on the signs.

     Two days later, Bill got a/an 9 from the owner of the dog. The owner thanked Bill. When he came to pick up his dog, he said Bill could have one of the babies. Bill was very 10! Finally Bill got a baby dog from the owner. He named him Rosco and liked him very much.

    A little girl heard her parents talking about her brother. All she knew was that he was sick and they had no money. Only a very1operation could save him but there was no one to2them the money any more.

    When she heard her daddy saying to her sad mother, "Only a miracle（奇迹）can save him now," the little girl went to her bedroom, took out her money and3it carefully.

    She hurried to a drugstore（药店）with the4in her hand.

    "What do you want?" asked the salesman. "It's for my brother," the girl answered. "He's really, really sick and I want to buy a miracle." "5?" asked the salesman.

    "Well, what a piece of12!" smiled the man. "$1.11, the price of a miracle for your little brother,"

    He took up the girl's hand and said, "Take me to your13. I want to see your brother and your parents. Let's14if I have the kind of miracle your brother needs. "

    That well-dressed man was Carlton Armstrong, a famous15. The operation was successful. And it wasn't long before Andrew was well again.

    When I was a junior high school student in 1980, God gave me a gift. I t was happiness.

    One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home, a car ran over me and cut off my arms because of its high speed.

    Several days later when I woke up at the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life1 arms. How sad I felt at that time! Even I was full of fears, but slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over it. I couldn't get my arms back even though I 2 every day.

    9 We should always think of what we have. So why are so many people unhappy? Someone may say, "My whole life would improve if I have a new car." But when you get the car and what 10 ? For a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.

    Happiness depends on what we have! It's in our heart. Happiness comes from knowing the art of appreciating(感激)and taking pleasure in what you really have.

    I did very1 at school. My headmaster thought I was simple and when I was 14, he said, "You are never going to be 2 but a failure."

    3 five years of low jobs, I fell in love with a very nice middle­class girl. It was the best 4 that could have happened to me. I decided I wanted 5 something positive with my life because I wanted to prove to 6 that what people said about me was 7, especially her mother, who had said to me, "You have 8 in everything you have ever done." So I 9 hard with my writing and went to college. My first novel came out while I was at college.

    After college I taught during the day in high schools and attended evening classes at London University. I became a lecturer at a college and was thinking of 10 that job to write full time at a university. I began to feel proud of myself.

    Now I am rich and famous. But what does it mean? I just wish all the people that have put me down had said, "I believe in you. You will succeed."

    When I was 13 years old, a boy gave me an important gift. It was a smile.

    It was the early autumn of my first year at a junior high school, and my old school was far away. As a result,  1 knew who I was. I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends with anyone.

    Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing. I felt my 2 break. I couldn't talk to anyone about my problem, and I didn't want my parents to worry about me.

    Then one day, my classmates talked happily with their friends,    78   I sat at my desk unhappily as usual. At that moment, a boy entered the classroom. I didn't know who he was. He passed me and then 3 back. He looked at me and, without a word, smiled.

    Suddenly, I felt the touch of 4 bright and friendly. It made me feel happy, lively and warm.

    That smile changed my life. I 5 to talk with the other students and made friends. Day by day, I became closer to everyone in my class. The boy with the lucky smile has become my best friend now.

   One day, I asked him why he smiled, but he couldn't remember smiling at me！

    It doesn't matter because all the dark days have gone. Now I believe that the world is what you think it is. If you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. So smile at the world and it will smile back.
