Chocolate is one of the most popular foods in the world. It is popular among people, especially among children. Many people choose it as a birthday gift. When a child gets a box of chocolate as a gift, he may feel very happy.

Chocolate tastes nice. People eat chocolate candy, chocolate cake, and chocolate cookies. They also drink hot chocolate.

Chocolate is made from cocoa beans(可可豆). Here are some interesting things about cocoa beans.

In the past，the Mayas and the Aztecs used cocoa beans as money because they were small，easy to carry，and not easy to find. A turkey cost ninety cocoa beans and a small rabbit cost thirty cocoa beans. Except for a few times, Americans are not big present-givers. There's no exchange of presents among business people, and if one American tries to give another a present, it may look like that he wants to bribe (贿赂) him. Americans have learned that in some other countries people like to give presents to others, but among ourselves we don't see the need for presents.
Even friends may never exchange presents. When I go to foreign countries, I try to bring back little things for close friends, but nobody would feel unhappy if I didn't. I don't often remember a friend's birthday, and few people outside of my family remember mine. If someone gave me presents too often, I'd get unpleasant. You may want to bring a bottle of wine (葡萄酒) or flowers to a dinner party, but you're never asked to. Nobody will mind if you bring wine, but your friend may not use it that evening.
At Christmas we often give presents to our family and sometimes our friends. We also give presents to people who have been helpful during the year like doormen, babysitters, housecleaners , newspaper senders — anyone who has often helped us.

Everybody can suffer from stress．No matter what your age is, you can feel stressed out by things that are happening in your life．Teenagers, however, have many more opportunities to get stressed than people in any other age group．Being a teenager is hard．You are not a child any more, but you are not an adult, even though you have to deal with some very grown-up problems and decisions．Families can be one of the biggest causes of stress, such as problems with parents arguing at home．or problems with brothers and sisters．Teenagers also have a lot of stress from school, either from their teachers or from their friends．Some teenagers also feel stressed about choosing their education after high school．Getting a place at university can be very difficult and some cannot afford to go to university．The stress about getting a job when finishing school is hard for some teenagers．There are so many young people finishing school and not enough jobs for them．Sadly, there is nothing we can do to remove these causes of stress from the 1ives of teenagers, but you can learn the best way to deal with it．Talking to people is one of the best ways to deal with stress．It may sound simple, but it is true．A problem shared is a problem halved．

    Some people choose to be vegetarian, but others are vegetarian because of their religion（宗教）, their culture, or the place they live. There are vegetarians all over the world, but the country with the most vegetarians is India.
    About one billion people live in India, and most follow the Hindu religion. Hindus think it is wrong to kill animals or make them suffer. They think if they do so, they will suffer the same way one day. Hindus believe cows are sacred, and they are respected by people. Therefore, most Hindus do not eat beef.

Some do not eat red meat, chicken, or fish but they eat cheese, butter, eggs, milk, and other animal products. Other vegetarians do not use anything that comes from an animal. Some don t wear wool because it harms the sheep, don t use silk because it hurts silkworms, and don t eat honey because they do not want to hurt bees. Other vegetarians only eat vegetables; however they do not kill plants. For example, they will not eat carrots or potatoes because when you pick them, the plants die. They will eat apples or pears because picking them does not harm the plant. Some vegetarians do not kill or hurt any animal-not even a fly or a mosquito!
    In India, too, there are different kinds of vegetarians. Some Hindus are strict vegetarians. Other Hindus eat all meat except beef, but they only eat it about once a week. Many families eat chicken or lamb a few times a year on special occasions, like wedding. The Hindus from the upper classes do not eat meat or drink alcohol. However, the lower classes eat all meat except beef. The upper classes, or Brahmans（婆罗门）, cannot kill anything that is moving. If they do, they believe they will become that animal in their next lives and will be killed, too.
    Hindus follow other rules when they eat. They rinse their mouths, arms, and legs before and after eating to clean themselves. It is a custom for the man of the house to eat thirty two mouthfuls at each meal, chewing carefully and thinking about pleasant things. Strict Hindus do not eat garlic or onions. They believe that foods have characteristics. Some foods are “hot", others are “cold” They think the strong smells of these foods are too powerful for the mild tastes and smells of other vegetables. Also, in middle class families, many women do not eat meat, but men do. Women think eating meat is something manly. They also connect meat with violence.
    Vegetarians are everywhere in both rich and poor countries. In parts of the world such as Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, meat is uncommon, and therefore it is an easy choice to be vegetarian. Surveys show that in both the United States and Britain about 4 percent of the population is vegetarian. And more and more people are choosing vegetarianism every day. Many people become vegetarian for health reasons. They look and feel better when they stop eating meat. Some famous vegetarians include Leonardo da Vince, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison.

Father's Day has become important in North America. And shopkeepers found it was a good way to get people to buy presents for their fathers, presents from their shops.

More and more countries are having Mother's Day, so maybe Father's Day will also become popular before too long. Now, what do people in North America do on Father's Day? They even tell a wife to buy a Father's Day present－not for her father but for her husband, even if he is not yet a father. And they tell grandchildren to buy a Father's Day present for their grandfathers.

The important thing to remember about Father's Day is that American children can show their love to their fathers in a more open way.

Gift-giving is different from culture to culture and person to person.

When people give gifts, sometimes color is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky color, and people often like to wrap gifts in red. However, do you know that in South Korea, red is a color of death? That is why you should not wrap your gifts in this color if you are giving a gift to a person there.

What about Western countries? In Western countries, the color of wrapping paper is not really important. But color does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a Western person you don't know very well because they are a symbol of love. You could give yellow roses instead, as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.

What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person's religion (宗教). When choosing a gift for a Muslim (穆斯林的) or Jewish (犹太教的) friend, you should never get food including pork, or things made from pigskin. Another thing that you should not get for a Muslim person is alcohol (酒).
