Paul Lacy and his wife Dorothy Lacy are Americans. They are in their seventies. They have an embroidery workshop (刺绣工厂)in Hunan.

The first time Dorothy went to Fenghuang was on a trip in 1999, and she fell in love with the old town and the Miao culture. In the following year, Paul and Dorothy decided to do something. With the help of a Chinese friend, the Lacys had their embroidery workshop in Fenghuang four years later.

After Paul and Dorothy sold their things in America in 2006, the Lacys started to live in Fenghuang. At first, the Lacys had a hard time because of the language. When they went shopping, they had to show the sellers pictures of what they wanted. As time went by, they made friends with the Miao people living there.

Before they lived in Fenghuang, the two went to many places of China. For example, they traveled to cities, such as Beijing, Xi'an and Guiyang. "Among all those places, we like Fenghuang best because of its beautiful and quiet environment and the rich culture of the Miao people. What's more, Dorothy thinks that the clothes of the Miao people are really beautiful. But it is the kindness of the people here that attracts (吸引）us the most. So we decided to live here," Paul said.

I'm Jimmy. I live (住) with my family. We have a big living room (大客厅).In the middle of the living room is a big sofa. On the left (左边) of the sofa, there is a bookcase. My sister and I always sit on the sofa and read books after dinner (晚餐). On the right (右边) of the sofa is a table. There are some oranges on it. My mother likes them. In front of (在……前面) the sofa, there is a big TV

set(电视机). My father likes watching (观看) TV.

Oh, where is my white watch? It isn't in the bookcase. It isn't on the table. It's under the table!

What are school days of junior high like in America? Do American students have the same school life as we do in China? And what do they often do on weekends?

In fact, it takes about six hours a day for American students to study from Monday to Friday. They don't have morning reading. They have four lessons in the morning and three lessons in the afternoon. They don't have lessons in the same classroom. They often go different classrooms to have different lessons. And students often sit around teachers and discuss(讨论) problems with them. They have little homework after school. They often do sports, listen to music or read books.

American students' weekend life is very colourful. On Friday evening, they usually have a party, go to the movies or have a meal at a restaurant. On Saturday, they often help their parents with some housework. On Sunday, they do their homework and stay with their family.

Seeing is believing(相信). but if our eyes don't work, how can we see to believe?

Today more and more kids wear glasses before going to middle school because they spend(花费)too much time watching TV or playing computer games without a rest. We must do something to protect our eyes. Without them, the world is like a house without any light. How important our eyes are! 

Love your eyes. Every day, when we open our eyes, we can see the lovely smiles of friends and parents, beautiful flowers and green trees.

Remember to give your eyes a rest. First, when you watch TV or use the computer for an hour or two, it is time to stop to have a 30-minute rest. Second, you need to do eye exercises at school. Closing your eyes for a rest is also helpful. In these ways, you will feel more comfortable(舒适的).So do your eyes.

    ▲     While doing homework and reading, it is important to keep a distance(距离) of 30 cm between your eyes and books. Never rub(摩擦)your eyes with dirty hands. Before and after swimming, use eye drops.

Eat something good for eyes, such as carrots, fish and eggs.
