    "My dear lady," says Holmes. "You're shivering. Are you cold? Do you want a cup of hot tea?"

    "I'm not cold," the woman replies, "I fear for my life!"

    "We are here to help you. Don't worry about anything. I don't know you. But I know many things about you. For example, I know how you travel. You came to London by train. You also ride to the train station on a horse-drawn wagon(马车)."

    "Why, yes. You're right. But how do you know these things?"

    "I see a return ticket in your glove. I see fresh mud on the left arm of your dress. Now tell us your problem."

    "My name is Helen Stoner," she states, "My mother and father are dead. I am living with my stepfather, Dr Grimesby Roylott. He comes from a rich family. But they are no longer rich. They have nothing except a small piece of land and a huge old house. We are living in the house. Dr Roylott is using my mother's money for expenses(开支). Part of it was for my sister and me. It was for our marriages."

    Holmes is sitting in his chair. His eyes are closed. He is listening carefully to Helen's story. He hears every detail(细节).

    Helen continues. "My stepfather has no friends. He fights with everyone. He is strong and gets angry quickly. Everyone is afraid of him."

    "He has no friends at all?" asks Holmes.

    "No. He talks to no one except the gypsies. They are poor people who travel from place to place. A band of gypsies is staying on our land right now."

    "Are you and your sister afraid of the gypsies?"

    "My dear Mr Holmes. You are making me so sad. My sister is dead. That is why I am standing here in this room."

    My sister and I went to an art museum last weekend. The museum was having a two-week show. Lots of very old artworks from two cities in Italy were on show.

    I liked one of the paintings best. The light on the woman's dress made it look as if she was really sitting there. A note on the wall told me about the artist and the painting. I was also interested in a very old sculpture(雕像). Parts of it had broken off. But I could still see how the man looked.

    There were quite a lot of paintings in the museum. Some paintings were stored away (保存). We saw them on the computer. The computer had a note about each painting and artist.

    After enjoying the artworks, we went to a room with costumes (戏装) in the museum. There my sister dressed up like one of the people in the old paintings. That was her favourite part of visiting the museum.

    In the museum, we also made art ourselves. I drew some flowers. And my sister drew a cute cat.

    At last we went to a gift shop in the museum. My sister chose a book for kids, and I chose a little sculpture.

    My sister and I were tired, but we had fun. I hope there can be more shows as exciting as this one in the museum.

    Tom is at school. He is in the classroom, but he can't find his schoolbag. Where is it? Is it lost? Oh, no! It is in his room. He forgets(忘记) to bring it to school. He calls his sister Sally and asks her to bring his school things to school. These are his school things.

    His schoolbag is on the chair. Under the chair is his pencil box. His math book is on the desk. His dictionary is on the bed. His pencils aren't in the pencil box. They're in the drawer.

    Oh, Sally, don't forget to bring his soccer ball. Tom likes playing soccer every day after school. But where is his soccer ball? Oh, it's on the floor, under the bed.

    Once Mr. King had a cat, and he loved it very much. He called it" sky", because he thought "sky" was the strongest name in the world.

    One day he had a meal at a restaurant with his cat.

    He met his old friend. He told him about his lovely cat and its name. His friend said, " How foolish you are！Sky is not the strongest thing in the world. My cat is called' cloud' because cloud is stronger than sky." After hearing this, Mr. King called his cat "wind" because he thought wind was stronger than cloud.

    After a few days he suddenly（突然）thought that" wall" was stronger than wind. And" mouse（老鼠）" was stronger than wall. So he went to his friend to ask for an idea. His friend said. "Don't you think cat is stronger than mouse?" "Yes, but."

    The man thought and thought and then decided his cat's name had better be" cat" because a mouse was always afraid of a cat.

    My name is Tom. I'm a boy from England. I have healthy food every day.

    I often have bread and milk for breakfast at home. They are healthy. I love hamburgers, but I seldom(极少) eat them. They are not good for us. I eat my lunch at school. I eat rice with meat and vegetables. After it, I eat an apple. I like apples very much. For dinner, my mother cooks soup, fish and vegetables for us. I like vegetables because they can make me stay healthy.

    Before I go to bed, I drink a cup of milk. It's good for sleep(睡眠). I also drink lots of water in the day. It's very important for me. There are few calories(几乎没有卡路里) in water. So I'm not fat now.
