仁爱科普版九年级上Unit 2 Saving the earth. Topic 1 Pollution has causestoo many problems.同步练习1

根据短文内容,选择正确答案。

Our living environment is being polluted faster than before and it seems nobody can prevent it. Time brings us more people, and more people bring us more industry, more cars, larger cities and growing use of man-made materials.

How can we understand and solve this problem? The fact is that pollution is caused by man —by his desire (欲望)for a modem way of life. So we are often ready to offer everything: clean water, good food, our health and the future of our children. There are more people from the countryside moving into the cities and enjoying the modem society. But as the technological momentum (势头) has grown in the last twenty years, pollution has become a serious problem.

Now we have to stop to ask ourselves where we are going and why. It makes one think of the story about the airline pilot who told his passengers over the loudspeaker, “I've got some good news and bad news. The good news is that we're going at 530 miles per hour. The bad news is that we're lost and don't know where we are going.” The sad fact is that this problem becomes a true story when speaking of our modem society.

(4)、The story about the airline pilot tells us that           .

(5)、The main idea of this passage is          .

A、pollution has become a serious problem B、man should slow down the speed of development to stop pollution C、the pilot would like to make a contribution to protecting the environment D、as industry is growing fast, pollution is the natural result

At 9:30, Rose said, "I hate going to bed. I want to stay up and watch a show!" At 6:00 in the morning, her alarm clock went off. Her mother heard her say, "The only thing I hate more than going to bed is getting up in the morning!"

What does Rose have in common with thousands of kids? She is not getting enough sleep. Have you ever stayed up later than you should? If you have, you know that not getting enough sleep can leave you feeling tired and upset. You may have even noticed that it's hard to think clearly and stay focused (专注的) when you are overtired.

Need some motivation (动机) to go to bed on time? Here are some important advantages (好处) of getting a good night's sleep. After a good night's sleep, we are more energetic, smarter and even happier.

Do you like to play sports? It has been shown that football players, swimmers and tennis players all perform better after a good night's sleep. Your coach may not tell you this, but the simplest way to improve your performance is to get enough rest.

Do you want to improve your grade? Healthy sleep habits improve your memory and your ability to pay attention to tasks, making schoolwork seem easier. While you get a snooze, your mind is very busy so you needn't get a good rest like a long sleep. Researchers have found that it's easier to learn after a good night's rest. So, it's no surprise that students who get enough sleep get better grades than those who don't.

Science and experience have shown that getting a good night's sleep is the key to success in whatever you do. Get a good night's sleep. You're worth it.

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

①We all think that history is really important, but how much does it actually matter?

②A famous writer from the 20th and 21st centuries, Michael Crichton, once said, If you don't know history, you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree. "But not everyone agrees. George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, a philosopher from the 19th century, said, "The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing. "Karl Marx from the 19th century said, "History repeats itself first as a tragedy, second as a farce(闹剧). So, we do learn from history, but that doesn't mean we don't make the same mistakes again.

③However, in my eyes, history tells us where we come from, what we did right, and what we did wrong. It gives us warnings for the future and helps us move forward with knowledge. We might repeat mistakes, but at least we can move forward with our eyes open.

④As we head into the future, it's important to know not only our own history but the one of our neighbor countries. What better ways to understand a country than through its people?

⑤We asked people from different countries to recommend the best books about their history. We also looked into our own country's past, remembering stories that meant something to us when we were growing up. This way, different perspectives on world history can be learned.

⑥You can take a quick trip through the history of England, from its earliest people to the  21st century. You' ll learn about the turbulent (动荡的) history of the US and then fly across the globe to hear stories from Kenya, Australia and the Philippines. The histories you' ll read about will help you explore different parts of the world and different times in history.
