Last Sunday I saw the worst storm in years. It came suddenly and went on for more than three hours. After lunch, I went into my room to have a rest. The air was hot, and all was quiet. The strong wind started blowing into my room. Pieces of paper on my desk flew high into the air and some flew out of the open window. As I ran out to catch them, big drops of rain began to fall. When I came back into the house, it was raining harder and harder. I tried very hard to close the window. Then I heard a loud crashing（碰撞的） sound from the back of the house. I ran out of my room to find out what it was— a big tree had fallen down and broke the top of the back room.

    Ray Charles，a black singer and pianist of the USA．He had won 12 Grammy Awards （格莱美奖） and performed at 10，000 concerts around the world．Many musicians called him simply"the Genius"（天才）．

    Ray Charles was born into a poor family，without a father．When he was 5 years old，his younger brother died，and around the same time，Charles started to lose his sight．By the age of 7he was completely blind．He had already been learning the piano for a year，and when he went blind，his mother knew this would be the only way he would make any money in the future．All his life，Charles remembered her saying："Do it right，or don't do it at all．"

    Later he went to a school for blind and deaf children．There the teachers also encouraged him to study music．Sadly，while he was still at school，his mother died．He left school and in the early 1950s Charles organized a group of players．He sang，played the piano and wrote music．

    He made many classical CDs with famous artists such as Elton John and the Beatles．

    In 2003 a film of his life Ray was made．The part of Charles was played by a younger actor and musician called Jamie Foxx．The film director brought Foxx to meet Charles．After they had been playing together for two hours，Charles，then aged 73，jumped up and said："He's the one…he can do it．"A year later Charles died aged 74．The film of his life has been as popular as his songs and means that the memory of Charles'music will live on．

    Mary is an English girl. She's six years old(岁). Her mother takes her to school in the morning and brings her home in the afternoon. She likes her nice school. She likes her teachers, too.

    One day, she says (说) to her mother, "Mum, we have a new girl in our class today, Her name is Kim. She's six years old, too. She's very nice, but she isn't English. She is German(德国人)".

    "Does she speak (说) English"?

    "No, but she laughs(笑) in English", Mary says happily(高兴地).

    Cross- country skier Man Dandan won the women's 1.4 km individual sprint here on Monday, earning China's first gold at the eighth Asian Winter Games in 2017.

    "I was in good form today," said the 28 year-old girl after winning the title in the final round with 3 minutes and 48. 29 seconds. "I didn't think much, but just focused on the games. As an old member, I want to set a good example to my younger teammates by doing my best no matter what the result is."

    Mikko Olavi Virtanen, the head coach of the Chinese cross-country skiing team, said after the game he was satisfied with Man Dandan's performance. "She is a super talented sprint skier. Her biggest problem before was to maintain the speed for four rounds of the competition. We have been working on that for the past seven months. I have been giving her advice, such as how to save the energy till the final round," he said, adding that Man is a good learner.

    He also said that the Chinese cross-country skiing team had a huge potential. "We have quite a young team. We still have five more years to Beijing Winter Olympics. I hope we can continue this good work for a long term," he said.

    Yelena Kolomina from Kazakhstan took the sliver and Ju Hyeri from South Korea got the bronze. Australia's Casey Wright finished the third in the final round but did not get a medal as a guest athlete.

Dogs are my father's favorite animal. He likes to watch the movies about dogs, and he also enjoys reading {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (小说) about them. 

He used to keep a pet dog for over five years. Unluckily, the dog was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(死的) in an accident in order to save him. It was a big shock to my father. Whenever the word "dog" was {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(提到), his face turned pale. He became so silent. I was worried and wondered how to cheer him up. 

Finally, I decided to make a special {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (明片) for our dog. My mom was willing to help me. We collected all the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (材料) we needed. We used the tools such as knives and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(剪刀). As we wanted to keep it a secret, we had to do it bit by bit. Several days later, we got {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(确切地) what we wanted. To make it more meaningful, I even recorded a short {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(演讲) for the dog. When I gave the special gift to my father, he couldn't help crying. He kept {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(重复) the sentence I wrote "Long live the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(英雄) in our heart although they are gone. "We were glad to see light back in his eyes again.
