Mak Som was an old lady in her seventies. She was often seen collecting unwanted boxes from rubbish bins. She would then put them on her old bicycle and sold them to the rubbish station. Many villagers had offered to take her in (收容) but she refused. She wanted to be independent. At night, she would sleep on a bench in the park.

    One day, the village headman called a meeting. They discussed Mak Som's condition and decided to build her a small house as a surprise gift. After buying the necessary materials, the villagers started working. Even the children went to help. They liked carrying tools or just passing things for the workers.

    Mak Som was curious and asked others what was happening. Someone told her that a villager's relative was moving in and people were only helping to build a house for him.

    After the house was completed, the villagers decided to hold a party in it. The headman invited Mak Som to go there together. He then said that the new house was a gift to Mak Som. She didn't want the house at first and said that she didn't have enough money to pay for it. After making her believing that it was a gift of love from the villagers, she finally accepted. With tears of joy, Mak Som thanked every one of the villagers. The villagers were glad that they had done something for this elderly member of their community.

    Stephen Chow was born in Hong Kong in 1962 and grew up in Shanghai, along with three sisters. He is best known for his comic（滑稽的）film roles.

    He showed an early interest in martial arts（武术）star Bruce Lee. It is the special hobby that made him to be more and more successful all around China. After studying from high school in 1982, with the help of his friend, Chow could take night courses in an acting school in Hong Kong. The school was run（经营）by TVB, a local television station. He graduated in 1983 and was hired（被雇用）as a host of a children's television program called 430 Space Shuttle. He was not very much fond of children.

    Later, he had a chance to play in the film Final Justice. In 1988, Stephen Chow won Best Supporting Actor for it at the 25th Annual（年度的）Taiwanese Film Awards.

    This led to a series of mostly comic film and television roles. In 1992, he won Best Actor of Asia Pacific Film Festival for the film Justice My Foot. He is famous for his comic and humorous actions and words in film and they always make people laugh.

    A Chinese Odyssey, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu are the best among his films.

    Little Peter is a boy of nine. He began to go to school the year before last and now he's in Grade Three. He lives not far from the school, but he's often late for class. He likes watching TV in the evening and goes to bed late, so he can't get up on time in the morning.

    This term Mrs Black, Peter's aunt, works in Peter's school. She teaches Grade Three maths. She's strict with Peter and often tells the boy to obey (遵守) the school rules and come to school on time. Yesterday morning Peter got up late. When he hurried to school, it was 8:15. His aunt was waiting for him at the school gate.

    "You're ten minutes late for the first class, Peter." Mrs Black said angrily. "Why are you often late for class?" Every time, when I get to the street corner, I always see a guidepost. It says, 'SCHOOL-GO SLOW!

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer called Larry in a small village. He had an old apple tree and some little animals lived in it. When he was young, he spent most of his time {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(play) around it. And it brought him fresh apples as well as much pleasure (快乐).
