In the recent interview, Evelyn Glennie who was the first lady of solo percussion in Scotland, recalled how she became a percussion soloist (打击乐器独奏演员) in spite of her disability.

    “Early on I decided not to allow the 1 of others to stop me from becoming a musician. I grew up on a farm in northeast Scotland and began 2 piano lessons when I was eight. The older I got, the more my passion (酷爱) for music grew. But I also began to gradually lose my 3 . Doctors concluded that the nerve damage was the 4 and by age twelve, I was completely deaf. But my love for music never 5 me.”

    “I was 11 to be assessed as a musician, not as a deaf musician, and I applied to the famous Royal Academy of Music in London. No other deaf student had 12 this before and some teachers 13 my admission. Based on my performance, I was  14 admitted and went on to 15 with the academy's highest honours.”

    “After that, I established myself as the first full-time solo percussionist. I 16 and arranged a lot of musical compositions since 17 had been written specially for solo percussionists.

    “I have been a soloist for over ten years. 18 the doctor thought I was totally deaf, it didn't  19 that my passion couldn't be realized. I would encourage people not to allow themselves to be  20 by others. Follow your passion; follow your heart, they will lead you to the place you want to go.”

    It was my first real trip as a lone（单独的）traveler. My first 1 was Paris. It took a lot of 2 to leave the safety of my hotel, but I'm glad I did.

    I decided to stop for dinner at a café and was halfway through a delicious meal when I found myself 3 by a group of French young men who had heard my Australian 4when I talked to a waiter. Despite their 5 English, we could understand each other and my new friends treated me 6 an adventure. They took me to 7 the city. What followed were three 8 days of parties, clubs, and further sightseeing of Paris I's never have seen on my own.

    Then I went to New Delhi, India alone. 9, I met an American family 10 to a wedding in a church, 11 they were to meet their new distant Indian relatives 12. We got on so well that they 13 I join them for the celebrations, and I found myself 14 with 800 people, when a bride and groom were arriving on elephants.

    On my trip to Japan, I 15 a university student to be my tour guide. This 16 in having a traditional Sunday lunch with her family.

    Travelling alone provides you with 17 to meet interesting people. You get life experience from what you do to 18 difficulties. And I'm 19 enough to have caught the attention of nice people from all over the world who strengthen my 20 in humanity（人性）.

    Almost everything was fantastic in the nature camp except for a girl, Elizabeth. When I saw her sitting alone in the hot sun at lunch, I asked her to eat with us under a(n) 1 tree. However, Elizabeth refused my kind 2. When we invited her to play volleyball with us, Elizabeth 3 our invitation, too. After a few more 4 refusals like that, I decided to stay away from Elizabeth.

    It 5 that we were going on a nature 6 and that our instructor paired everyone up with a partner. Guess who my partner turned out to be. It was Elizabeth!

    “What do you like to do 7?” I asked, trying to make small 8 as we started out. “I like to 9 in peace and quiet,” Elizabeth 10. So we had the quietest and most peaceful hike in the world 11 we saw a bird. “I think his wing is hurt. Poor little bird,” Elizabeth said 12. “He might be taking a rest over there.” I said. Elizabeth nodded. Then she whispered, “But what if he's in13, like my granddad?” “Your granddad?” I said. “He 14 and broke his leg the day the camp started. He's 15 in hospital and is in so much pain,” Elizabeth explained. I noticed she was 16. “I'm sorry for what I have done. For some reason, whenever I get really sad, I act 17 and want to be alone,” she added.

    “I get it,” I said. “I don't always know how to 18 it when I'm feeling down, either.” “Thanks,” she said, wiping off her tears.

    After that, Elizabeth seemed to get along well with us, and I think she actually 19 the last few days of the camp.

    Next time, if someone is unfriendly, give him a second 20. Maybe he's going through a tough time.

    All of us can give others a hand as long as we are willing to do so. Actually, there are some people doing kind things all the time. Spreading kindness, one good deed at a time, is Karla Gibson's mission. "I wish everyone could join me. There are so many 1things going on in the world; I mean every day," said Karla.

    Karla had the commitment and sense of2in December of 2013. The single mother of three said she tended to feel depressed around the holidays, so she 3to do something to cheer others up. She started a Facebook page and4her good deeds each day, from feeding the homeless to giving Easter gifts to the incarcerated( 囚犯) .She hoped to 5others.

    "We have to do something. Our6can make a difference in someone's day. You7know when someone might be having their worst day, and then something like buying them a coffee can change their whole attitude," Karla8

    Karla's greatest9so far had to do with coffee. On September 27th, Karla's birthday, she went to her local Starbucks and gave the10$ 127 to pay for othe: people's drinks. She sat at the end of the drive-through holding a11that read. "Have a great day." She ended up12about 23 customers. "It was really fun. I was13one of the best birthdays ever," she said. Her kindness that day didn't go 14One couple were so grateful that they surprised her with flowers and balloons to show their15.

    Karla's acts of kindness have become a16affair. Her two sons are always17others. "Sometimes I'll ask Kyle, 'So, did you do anything extra nice today? and his answers are like 'Somebody18something in the hallway and I picked it up or 'I held the door for someone', that kind of thing," said Karla.

It's because of Mom that the boys think it's19to give a hand to others." think it's a great idea of hers. It's always nice to help someone out20they real need it," said Karla's 15-year-old son Chad.

    A video show has become a hot topic on the Internet around China these days. The 35-second video shows that a man driver took a woman out of her red car, threw her to the ground and 1 her several times.
