My cousin and I took a trip by rail across Canada from west to east. Before starting out, we spent a couple of days in Vancouver, admiring the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sight). Then we arose early to take the train to Lake Louise, passing through the Canadian Rockies. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (see) from the train window, the mountains and forests looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mass). We spent the night near the lake, where the blue water literally took our breath away, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} headed to Jasper the next morning. The beautiful scenery convinced us it was the most awesome journey we {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (take). From Jasper, we boarded the train bound {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Toronto. One of our first stops was in Edmonton, which {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be) home to many shopping malls. We never anticipated seeing such an open country until the train headed across the Great Prairie. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} amazed us most were a bunch of farms covering two wheat-growing provinces. The train thundered on, through the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (roll) hills in Ontario. It was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (true) enjoyable to watch the red maple leaves outside the window. After four days, we reached Toronto.

Mr. Brown had an umbrella shop in a small town. People sometimes {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(bring) him broken umbrellas, and then he took {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(they) to a big shop in London. They were mended there.

One day Mr. Brown went to London by train. He forgot {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(take) an umbrella with him that day. Sitting in front of him was a man with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} umbrella standing beside the seat. When the train arrived in London, Mr. Brown picked {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the umbrella as he often did during his journey by train. Just as he was getting off, he {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop) by the man. He said {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(angry), "That's mine!" Mr. Brown' s face turned red and he gave {#blank#}8{#/blank#} back to the man at once.

When Mr. Brown got to the big shop, the shopkeeper had got his six umbrellas ready. After a good look at each of them, he said, "You've mended them very well."

In the afternoon he got into the train again. The{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(similar)man was in the same seat. He looked at Mr. Brown and his six umbrellas, "You've had a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(luck)day," he said.

With amazing Christmas lights and some very special guests, Pallion Action Group kicked off the festive season in style after another year of giving much-needed support to theSunderland community.

"We've got wreath making, our singers and dancers and, of course, a visit from Santa.This event brings out so much enthusiasm in the community,"said organizer Karen Noble."We'll also go and surprise anyone we know who's going to be lonely at Christmas."

Pallion has been at the heart of the community here since 1993, but the past couple of years have seen people increasingly struggling financially and feeling lonely. "This time last year, people were in great poverty,"said Karen. "But if we've done our job properly, they've become more financially resilient(可迅速恢复的) or less lonely and we should be helping different people this year. And a lot of those who were helped last year are volunteering for us now. People are so kind—we get loads of homemade thank-you cards. But I think the biggest thanks we get is knowing we've helped somebody to the point where they're independent and getting on with life."

It is a special cross-country race. The competitors' vehicles are made{#blank#}1{#/blank#}fruits and vegetables like carrots eggplants, grapefruits, pumpkins and oranges. They are the creations of pupils from the Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School.

According to Chen You, the science class teacher,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(base) knowledge had been taught within 6 classes to students before they drew sketches and{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(choose) vegetables to make a food car.

Although students were encouraged{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(design) their cars together with parents, all the cars should be made in the class. After{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(bring) piles of ingredients as well as tools the children began their innovation. Some cut the carrot slices to make them round, and some others assembled (组装) their car components together.

In addition to the{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(compete), students are required to reflect on the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(difficulty) they encountered making their vehicles,{#blank#}8{#/blank#}things they have learned from the activity and the improvements they think the course can make.

{#blank#}9{#/blank#}touched the teachers most was the unity and friendship among the children. For example, although the contest was fierce (激烈的), students felt {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(excite) for the champion car as if they themselves had stood out, and when a girl's car fell apart their friends comforted her and helped reassemble the car.

Here are two athletes who are masters in their sports and also set{#blank#}1{#/blank#} good example for others.

Lang Ping, as a player, brought honour and glory to her country. As a coach, she led the China women's volleyball team to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (medal) at world championships and the Olympics. When the Chinese team was preparing for the 2015 World Cup, her {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (determine) was tested. The team she had built was falling apart. Two of her players had to leave.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (face) the challenge, Lang Ping didn't lose heart. She knew that her young players could win{#blank#}5{#/blank#} they worked together as a team. Two weeks later, they were world champions.
