In my living room, there is aplaque that advises me to “bloom youare planted”. It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program. Thejob (responsible) requiredoccasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothystands out in my memory as on one bloomed in her remote area.

Dorothy taught in a remote school nearHarlan. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road (wind) around the mountain. In theeight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving thepossibility of (catch) by thesame train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive throughmountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the smallshabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of (hope).

From the moment of my arrival at thelittle school, all my gloom disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy's classroom,I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children(prepare) to show me their (late) projects. Dorothy told me witha smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread they madethemselves for dinner.

Lonely she was far away from the moderncivilization and convenience, she never ran out of reports of excitingactivities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooleddown. She passed all the tests (excellent)and I found that Dorothy was really blooming where life had planted her.

By now she understood that it could not be an {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(invite) but was puzzled as to why they asked it.In the following days she was asked the same question again and again and she spent many hours {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(try) to work out why so many people kept asking her this.At last she thought that these people must be {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(concern) about her health. She was rather thin at the time, and she thought they must be worrying that she was not eating well!

In fact the question like that has no real meaning at all — it is only a greeting.

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic (残奥会)Games brought the world's attention to sport like never before. It was admirable {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(see) a small nation like the UK organize the Olympic for {#blank#}2{#/blank#} third time in modern history.

Britain probably {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(invent) quite a few modern sports. One is cricket (板球), {#blank#}4{#/blank#} is now played at international level in a dozen countries. Tennis also first became popular here and Wimbledon is one of the four big tournaments every year. Golf{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (suppose) to be Scottish in origin (起源)from a school of the same name.

Every town in Britain has football, rugby or cricket club (sometimes all three) and at least one swimming pool. Schools have a gymnasium and playing fields with a running track. As British is an island, there are lots of opportunities for practising water sports {#blank#}6{#/blank#} well.
