Venus is the second nearest planet from the sun. It is only a little smaller than the earth, about 95% of the earth's diameter and 80% of the earth's mass. Earth and Venus are sometimes called the twin planets.

The word Venus means the goddess of love and beauty in Greek. __________ probably because it is one of the brightest planets we have known by now. We human beings have known Venus for a long time. It has a cloudy atmosphere. This helps it reflect sunlight. So it appears to be very bright. It is easily observed in the sky. It is seen near the sun. It seems that it is the brightest thing in the sky except the sun and the moon. Venus reaches its maximum* brightness shortly before sunrise or shortly after sunset, and is often thought as the Morning Star or as the Evening Star. A lot of observation of Venus was important to Copernicus's Heliocentric Theory * of the solar system.

Scientists for years thought that Venus was very likely to have life in some forms. In 1962, scientists sent the first spacecraft to explore Venus, and we will know more about Venus in the future.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient, SQ (精神智商)helps us understand ourselves and live fuller, happier lives.
While we're all born with SQ, most of us even don't know that we have it. Luckily, you don't have to sign up for classes to learn how to enhance(加强) your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding:
Sit Quietly. The step of developing SQ begins in solitude (独处) and silence. To tune in to its whisper, you have to keep away from your busy, noisy, complicated life and make yourself do nothing at all. At home, for example, shut the door of your bedroom, take a few deep breaths and let them out very, very slowly.
Step Outside. For many people, nature makes their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. Follow the flight of a bird; watch clouds floating overhead.
Find An Activity You Enjoy. It's important to find a hobby that helps you tune in to your spirit. Garden, walk or jog, arrange flowers, listen to music that touches your soul.
Ask Questions Of Yourself. Some people use their thoughtful time to focus on scriptures (经文). Others ask open-ended (无确定答案的) questions, such as “What am I feeling? What are my choices?”But don't expect an answer to arrive through some super-natural form of e-mail. Later that day you'll suddenly find yourself thinking about a problem from a perspective (角度) you never considered before.
Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut feelings (直觉) to warn us of danger, SQ usually nudges (渐渐推动) us, not away from, but toward some action that will lead to a greater good.

Steel, concrete(混凝土) and glass are the usual materials in any skyscraper. But more high buildings are now using wood.

In the last four years, Australia, Norway, England and Canada have all built wooden skyscrapers. The latest one is in Sweden, a new, 19-storey wooden hotel called "Sida vid Sida" (Side by Side).

Why are wooden skyscrapers being chosen ahead of concrete ones? Let's find out.

    Is it strong enough?

Wood has been used in many Chinese buildings for thousands of years, but is it strong enough for skyscrapers?

"There's a lot of new materials made out of wood that are able to build big buildings," material expert Dr Michael Ramage told CNN when he was interviewed.

Architects (建筑师)have done thousands of experiment to make sure it is. They place layers of wood across one another coated with special glue to create very strong material.

Wood also lasts a long time and doesn't break down if it is well looked after. The examples include the rooftops of Beijing's Forbidden City and some 700-year-old houses in England.

Ramage also said on the internet that bamboo could be cut in special ways to make it even stronger than normal wood.

    Won't it catch fire?

Wooden buildings sound dangerous when it comes to fire. But experts say they may be safer than concrete ones if there is a fire.

"Wood doesn't burn in the way the public imagines," Ramage said. Very small pieces of wood catch fire easily, but very big pieces of wood are quite hard to set on fire, he said.

“Without music, life would be a mistake,” famous German philosopher(哲学家) Friendrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).

For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired(解雇)over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.

However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways.

When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.

Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.
