Some students have their favorite pop stars or sport stars. They admire them very much. They admire their ability and the way they live their lives. Young people are full of potential ( 潜能) and have lots of questions about their futures: What kind of person will I be? What kind of job can I do? ①Sportsmen and pop stars seem to havealready answered these questions in their own lives. But when you watch these people, you only see a part of their lives, the public part. Their everyday lives might be very d_②______.

Many parents worry that their children will follow the bad side of their idols (偶像). And many young people are often disappointed to discover that their favorite idols ③have feet of clay. But the lucky thing is that they don't have to behave exactly like their idols.

④Celebrities (名人) are fun to watch and admire, but the best idols are often the people you see in your everyday life: your family, your neighbors and your teachers. These are the people who teach you how to be honest and how to get along with others.

    Aron Ralston is an American man who is interested in mountain climbing. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.This is one of the exciting things about doing dangerous sports. There were many times when Aron almost lost his life because of accidents, On April 26, 2003, he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing in Utah.

    On that day, Aron's arm was caught under a 360-kilo rock that fell on him when he was climbing by himself in the mountains, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he stayed there for five days and hoped that someone would find him, But when his water ran out, he knew that he Would have to do something to wave his own life. He was not ready to die that day, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Then, with his left arm, he bandaged himself so that he would not lose too much blood. After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. This means being in a difficult situation that you cannot seem to get out of. In this book, Aron tells of the importance of making good decisions, and of being in control of one's life. His love for mountain climbing is so great that he kept on climbing mountains even after this experience.

    Do we have the same spirit as Aron? {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, and before we have to make a decision that could mean life or death.

    Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and be sure you do not waste (浪费) this great chance to learn?

    Be active (积极的) at school. Don't say things are difficult or boring. Take an interest in your school life and school subjects. Take part in lots of activities (活 动). Put up your hands quickly in class. Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers can not make everything enjoyable (令人愉快的).

    Keep fit. If you don't eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class.

    If you go to bed late and don't have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. Play enough sports every day in order to keep your body strong.

    Face the problem. Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. You cannot finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails (失败) some exams, loses some matches and has a bad day. Don't make small problems very big and important. Don't forget to ask for help if you cannot solve the problems. You are young, and no one thinks you must do everything quite well!

    Spend the weekends. Don't waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play sports, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn to play the piano, or help someone with problems. If you don't want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practice English or help your mum with housework.

The answer could be that people could be very interested in the past.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Most people travel overseas to find out what foreign countries' history and culture used to be like, not what they are like today. Tourists visit different kinds of museums in foreign countries so that they can learn their history and culture.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}It is not just its old buildings, its works of art or beautiful places, but also the people who live in it. This is why a country such as Thailand attracts millions of people. The tourists come mainly because of the friendliness of the people there. It is why the Pacific islands are also so popular. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Customs on Eating

    Food in China and western countries is different. China has about 5000 years' old history. They may spend half of their time on food. Chinese people choose food very carefully. They only use. fresh materials (新鲜的材料) to make food. For example, they only eat fresh fish. Chinese have a lot of ideas for cooking. They can cook a chicken in over ten ways.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Western countries, like England or America, don't have fresh food because they buy their food from supermarkets which only sell stored materials (储存的材料).{#blank#}2{#/blank#}They are healthy for man's body. Western people do not have many skills for cooking, and mostly they only boil, steam (蒸) and bake the food. By the way, western people are very good at making desserts and chocolate. They can make very good cakes and chocolate{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    In China, the person who invites other people for meal would pay for the meal, but it's not the same way in western countries.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} They can afford it. They won't be happy if you pay for them. In western countries like America or England, people will always give tips (小费) to the waiter after they finish the meal in a restaurant. If you don't, the waiter will not be happy. In China this only happens in some top restaurants and hotels in large cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

    Chinese people only have three meals during a day. But western people may have more. They usually have afternoon tea when they would have fruit, cakes or biscuits with cheese.
