When treating some friends to dinner, we Chinese often say, “The dishes are not good. Please forgive me.” In fact, it is a Chinese way of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) modest. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he really means is that all the dishes here are really wonderful! What he really hopes is compliment from the guests! But {#blank#}3{#/blank#} English would not understand it at all! Now that it is not very good, why should you present the dishes in front of us? The English would say to their guests “ Enjoy yourselves!” when eating and “hope you've enjoyed!” after eating.

    While {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (eat), we Chinese often say to the guests, “Eat slowly.” This would be very {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (puzzle) to the foreigners: Am I eating very violently? Am I eating too {#blank#}6{#/blank#} or too much?

    And now comes the end of the dinner when your guests {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (leave). The Chinese would say, “Walk slowly!” This is a very polite saying in Chinese, but will also be confusing to the foreigners: why can't I walk fast? Does it matter {#blank#}8{#/blank#} I walk slowly or not? Are you worrying that I may fall over? {#blank#}9{#/blank#} change your words {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a simple “Bye!” or “See you next time!”

Recently I failed an exam. However, after I came out of my teacher's office, I told myself, "Smile! It's not so serious."

    I smiled a big smile and it worked a little, really.

Everyone gets frustrated sometimes. I used to be always influenced by {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (press) and I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (be) often in low spirits. But one day I came {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a sentence in the Bible. "Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself, let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day." It suddenly struck me, "{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (worry) about a problem doesn't help. Why not just give a big smile and face up the trouble?"

    Now every time I want to cry, I remind myself that laughter is better than {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (tear) and anger. I{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (convince) that there's something magical about a smile. A smile helps me recover confidence and gives me the courage to move on.

    Remember, whenever {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (face) with a setback, whenever you've been treated {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (unfair),{#blank#}9{#/blank#} it takes is determination and you can feel happy again. Smile at life,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} it will shine on you.

    One evening years ago in New York, I sat on a bench in a park and watched a little boy, around 2 years old,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (run) freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance away. While I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(touch) by the boy's strong mind, I was also touched by the way he ran. With each attempt, he looked so confident and natural. He only wanted to run{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(free) and to do it as {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(good) as he could. He was just being a child—just being himself—being completely in the moment. He never gave up. Each time he{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(fall), he got himself back up again, as if he knew that falling down was simply a part of life. He was not looking for others' smiles, or worrying about{#blank#}9{#/blank#}someone was watching or not. He only wanted to run and to feel the experience of running fully and freely.

    I learned a lot from that experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in many{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(part) of my life.

    The sun at the center of our Solar System is one of the big reasons for{#blank#}1{#/blank#}we're here today, but it can also be a big trouble from time to time. Coronal mass ejections(CMEs) (日冕物质喷发)can seriously damage human{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(communicate) systems.

    For years, researchers{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(attempt) to forecast and predict CMEs in {#blank#}4{#/blank#}hope that warnings could help prevent damage to electronics and the power grid (电网). As it turns{#blank#}5{#/blank#}that a CME is more like a sneeze. Professor Mathew Owens of the University of Reading explains, "The research team and I have found they are more like an{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(expand) dust cloud or sneeze."

    When the solar wind acts on the CME as it moves through space, it causes the shape and behavior of the energy explosion {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(become) unpredictable. "Therefore if we want to protect{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (we) from solar eruptions, we need to understand more about the solar wind, "Owens says.

    The research team suggests that solar wind readings should {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (include) in the forecasting and prediction of future CMEs. This study could help scientists more{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(accurate) assess the risk that the ejections bring to human technology and potentially help reduce the damage they cause.
