One day, a poor boy who was trying to pay his way through school by selling goods door to door found that he only had one cent left. He was so 1that he decided to beg for a meal at the next house. However, he was too nervous to say anything when a young2 opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much should I 3 for that?” “Nothing.” She replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for 4” He said, “Then I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger 5 but it also made him believe in God more because this woman was just like an angel sent by God. He was about to 6before this point.

    Years later the young woman became seriously 7. The local doctors had no idea how to cure her. They finally sent her to the big city, where 8could be called in to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly, who was 9as a doctor was called in for this case. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.10 he rose and went down through the hospital hall into her room.11his doctor's coat he went in to see her. He12 her at once. He went back to the Doctors' room and decided to do his best to save her life. From that day on, he gave special attention to her case.

    After a long hard time, she was able to leave hospital. When the bill was sent to her room, she was13 to open it because she knew that it would take the rest of her life to pay it off. Finally she looked, but a note on the side of the bill caught her attention. She read these words, “Paid in full with a glass of 14” (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly. Tears of 15 flooded her eyes as she prayed silently: "Thank You, God. Your love has spread(传播) through human hearts and hands.

    Everyone in the neighborhood was b{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows while Mom was making sure the lights and radio were {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Ben was helping his mom make dinner when the rain began. After dinner, they tried to play a card game, b{#blank#}7{#/blank#} it was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside.

    Ben could not s{#blank#}8{#/blank#} first. He finally fell asleep when the wind was dying down.

When he w{#blank#}9{#/blank#} up, the sun was rising. He went outside with his family and found the neighborhood in a mess. Fallen trees, broken windows and rubbish were everywhere.

    They joined the neighbors to clean up the neighborhood.

    Although the storm broke many things apart it brought families and neighbors c{#blank#}10{#/blank#} together.

    Mr. Brown was very fat and he didn't feel well. Mrs. Brown was1about his weight (体重).

    "You must see a doctor," she said, "and ask him how to2weight. It's not good3your health." "OK." Mr. Brown said, and then he went to see the doctor.

    The doctor looked him over, then he said, "Nothing serious, you are too heavy. You must lose430 kilos. Eat only fruit and vegetables and run five kilometers a day for the next5days, then call and tell me how6you are."

    Mr. Brown went home and did7the doctor told him. One hundred days8, he called the doctor.

    "Mr. Brown here, doctor," he said. "I'm calling to tell you about my weight. You will be9to know that I lost 30 kilos."

    "Great!" The doctor said. "Yes, but there's another10," Mr. Brown said. "I'm 500 kilometers from home!"

    Long ago, everything on the Earth was asleep. Nothing moved. Nothing grew. (One day the Rainbow Serpent(彩蛇)woke from her sleep and came out from under the ground.

    She travelled a long way but finally got 2  because she was alone and so she returned to the place where she had first appeared, and called to the frogs. "Come out！"

    The frogs appeared one by one. It was difficult for them to move forward because stomachs were 3  water, which they had stored in their sleep. The Rainbow Serpent tickled(挠疼)the frogs and, when they 4  , water ran all over the Earth and that is how lakes and rivers were formed.

    Because there was water, all the animals 5  , and the grass and trees grew. The animals followed the Rainbow Serpent across the land. They were happy. Each lived and collected food with other animals of the same kind.

    At first, all the animals behaved well, but some started making 6  , and so the Rainbow Serpent made rules that they all had to obey.

    The Rainbow Serpent said, ""Those who obey my rules will get a reward(奖贫). I will turn them into humans. Those who don't obey my rules will be punished(惩罚)and turned into stone, and will never be able to   on the Earth again. "

    The bad animals became stone and turned into mountains and hills, and those who obeyed the rules were turned into humans, and lived with others of the same kind happily on the Earth.
