Jeans have become one piece of clothing worn by the most people in the world. Everybody wears them, from the farmer to the lawyer and from models to housewives. But why have jeans become so popular? You'll get many answers. For some people they look cool, for others jeans are just comfortable.
Jeans were first stronger trousers made for farm workers in the states of the American west. In the eastern part of the US jeans were hardly worn at all. They were connected with farm people and the workers. So the rich wouldn't like to wear them.
It was James Dean and Marlon Brando that made them popular in movies and everyone started to wear them. They were a symbol of the rebellion of young people during the 1950s and 1960s. So these new trousers were not allowed in American schools and sometimes in theatres and cinemas. As time went on,jeans became more acceptable. American people in Europe and Japan often wore them when they were not on duty to show that they were Americans. The trousers showed the world a happier way of life, something that people needed, especially after what they had gone through in World War II.
Jeans had other advantages as well. They didn't need to be washed as often as other trousers and women didn't need to iron them. This became more important as more and more women started working and had less time for housework.
Today jeans are an important part of our lives. They are always washed a few times before they are sold to give them a faded look.

Do you know how chocolate is made?Recently my class had a field trip to the Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Toronto,Canada.

We were divided into 10 groups and visited an old building.The guide first explained the history of the factory.Then we got some earbuds(耳塞) to protect our ears from the noise of the machines.We also needed to wear disposable(一次性的) lab clothes and hairnets(发网)

After these preparations,we went upstairs and entered the chocolate﹣making area.The floor was filled up with many machines.Each machine has a different job.The whole floor only has two people working,because machines do most of the work.Next,and there were more than1,000 people working in the factory.But now the factory is very different.It's amazing how technology is changing people's life.

Later,we saw the chocolate﹣making process.We got a cocoa bean,some powdered(粉状的),kind of like dark chocolate.It is the raw material used to make chocolate.The powdered chocolate tasted good already.It is a combination of cocoa bean,milk and sugar.The final product tasted delicious.

Finally,we bought some chocolate at a shop in the factory.It was at a very low price.I learned about the chocolate industry during the field trip.And I also realized how important technology is.

Theo works days, nights, and weekends in the tulip, fields in the Netherlands and never feels tired. How is this possible? Theo is an AI robot that looks fo sick flowers each spring.

The work stops viruses(病毒)from spreading among the plants. The robot looks for troubled tulip bulbs(鳞茎) and kills them if necessary. They are removed (去除) from the healthy ones,in a processing center after the harvest.

There are 45 robots like Theo working in the tulip fields of the Netherlands. Their job becomes important as the winter turns to spring and the busiest season nears. People come from around the world to see the colorful flowers.

This is the second season that Allan Visser has used a robot. He said it is very costly-the same as sports car-about $200, 000. In the past, knowledgeable farmers would walk the fields looking for tulips that showed signs of sickness. "I prefer to have the robot because a sports car doesn't take out thesick tulips from our field, " he said "Yeah, it is expensive, but there are fewer and fewer people who can really see the sick tulips.

Erik de Jong, the manager of the company that makes the robots, said all of the knowledge they use in the computer program comes from tulip farmers—farmers like Theo van der Vourt. He is the farmer after whom the robot is named.

Van der Vourt retired(退休)after 52 years of looking for sick flowers in his fields. "It's fantastic"he said, "It sees just as much as I see. "

Through Sullivan's careful instruction, the little girl learnt to understand and communicate with the world around her. She  ▲  Sullivan to read and write in braille (盲文). She could understand only by touch. As Helen grew older, she made good progress and learnt to read more. She also learnt to write and even speak. When Helen studied in the university, Anne sat beside her. She listened to the professors' words and spelt them on Helen's hands.

After Helen finished university, she visited a lot of countries. She spoke about her life. She was famous for her courage and hard work. She tried her best to help other people who were blind or deaf. Her first book The Story of My Lifewas printed in many languages. And her other four books were published later on.

We are healthy. We can know and think what's going on around us. While Helen was blind and deaf, she never let her blindness and deafness prevent (阻止) her from achieving success. And this gives me hope for life.

Kate Sessions was interested in trees when she was a child. While other girls didn't want to get their hands dirty, little Kate enjoyed picking up branches(树枝) and fruits in the forest. Kate also danced and sang songs happily there. She felt the trees were her friends. She loved the way they grew toward the sky and how their branches stretched(延伸) to get the light. Kate thought the trees were like big umbrellas that protected her and the animals, birds and plants that lived in the forest. Kate smiled as she walked among the trees, enjoying the sounds of birds. Not everyone felt at home in the forest, but Kate did.

Kate learned well in school. She learned how to read and write. She remembered the stories she read. But best of all, she liked studying wind and rain, plants and trees, especially trees. At that time, very few girls chose to study science, but Kate chose to learn ecology(生态学) because of her love for it. She still tried to make her dream come true as a person who knew much about trees.

After leaving school, Kate came to San Diego, a city with few green plants and bad air. Kate made a decision to better the air of the city, so she brought different kinds of trees to San Diego and called on her friends to plant trees with her. With hard work, they made Balboa Park in San Diego a beautiful and fantastic garden. Kate is also known as the" Mother of Balboa Park".
