The crow （乌鸦） is an ordinary （普通的） bird. It is about twenty inches （英寸） long and black all over. Crows are dirty birds because they live on old bad food. Crows eat a lot of waste food. In this way they are more useful to us than any other bird. They clean up the dirty things in our streets. Crows are always hungry. They look for food all day long, and in the evening you can see them in large numbers flying back to their nests (窝) in the trees. They sleep there at night. Crows are much noisier than other birds. Very often a large number of crows will get together on one house and talk. Sometimes they talk together, and sometimes they do it by talking like human beings (人类). It is easy to tell from(区别) crows' sounds whether they are pleased or angry. Perhaps crows talk a lot because they are friendly birds. A pair of crows will live together all their lives, and if one of them dies, the other one becomes very sad and quiet for the rest of its life and sometimes it dies, too.

    Why do plants grow in some places and not in the others? Why does some land have so much growing on it, while other land has almost no plants growing on it at all?

    To grow, plants need several things. One is warmth. In very cold places almost nothing grows. Plants also need water. In very dry parts of the Earth only a few unusual plants can grow. That's why dry deserts everywhere are almost not covered by trees or grass.

    Plants must also have a place in which to put down their roots and grow. They find it difficult to grow on hard land. The town is built on hard land. The plants here have only the soil found between the cracks of the stones to grow in.

    Another thing plants must have before they can grow is food.

What will happen if we try to make things grow on the sandy beach? A few plants, such as beach grass, will grow in sand, but most plants won't. Even if the weather is warm enough and we water the plants each day, many of them will die because the sand on this beach has almost no food for plants.

    My mother used to ask me what the most important part of the body was. I got different answers at different ages.

    When I was young, I thought sound was very important to us, so I said, "My ears, Mum. "But she shook her head and said no. Several years passed, and she asked me again. I believed that I got the right answer after thinking it over. So I told her，"Sight is very important to everyone, so it must be our eyes. "But she told me I was wrong. I tried many times after that, but her answer was always the same. Till last year, my grandma died. Everybody was crying, and everybody was hurt. My mom looked at me and asked me with tears in her eyes，"Do you know the answer now？"I was surprised when she asked me this question then. "My son, the answer is your shoulder. Everyone needs a shoulder to cry on. "

    Finally, I realized (意识到)all she hoped is that I can have enough love and friends so that I will have a shoulder to cry on when I need it.

There are many eating habits in the world. What are the eating habits in your country? In many countries, people usually have three main meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. They have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

In England, people have breakfast from seven to nine in the morning. They have porridge, eggs or bread. English people also drink tea or coffee for breakfast. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

One different meal in England is afternoon tea. It is from four to five o' clock in the afternoon. Dinner is at about half past seven. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Then they have meat or fish with vegetables. After that, they eat some other things like bananas, apples or oranges. But not all the English people eat like that. Some of them have their dinner in the middle of the day— at about twelve o' clock. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. They think dinner is very important. They call the last meal of the day" supper".

All in all, English and Chinese people have different eating habits. Different people may eat in different ways, but their meals are still an important part of their life.
