Bruce is 12 years old. He is a clever and lovely boy. His parents run (经营) a big restaurant. They are very busy every day. Bruce often helps them when he is free.
This morning Mrs. White, Bruce's mother, asked him to send some bills (账单) on his way to school. Bruce didn't feel happy. Before he left home, he left a bill on the table. It said:
"Dear Mum, Can you pay for the bill?
Doing the dishes (洗餐具): 30 dollars
Cleaning the house: 30 dollars
Walking the dog: 20 dollars
Sending bills: 20 dollars"
At noon Bruce's mother saw his bill but she said nothing. She put 100 dollars and another bill on Bruce's bed. In the evening, Bruce was happy to get the money and he saw the bill, too. It said:
"Dear Bruce, Can you pay for the bill?
Your happy life in our home during the last twelve years: 0 dollar
Your eating and drinking during the last twelve years: 0 dollar
Your presents from us for every birthday: 0 dollar"
Bruce felt very ashamed of himself after he read it. He walked into his mother's room and said sorry to her. He put the 100 dollars into his mother's pocket.
A funny thing happened to my sister Tina last month. She lives in Japan and teaches English. In Japan, people don't usually wear their outdoor shoes in the house or in school, and a lot of buildings have places for shoes. So her school has a special place for shoes. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Tina teaches English in the evening. One Friday, she went to school, and she put her shoes in the shoe box as usual. Then she had an interesting spoken English class with her students. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} But to her surprise, her shoes weren't in the box. There was only one pair of those there, and they weren't her shoes! She had to get home in a hurry. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}
On Monday, at her next English class, her shoes were in a shopping bag on her desk! There was a note that said, “I'm so sorry. I took your shoes by mistake!” {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Somebody felt a lot of shame!
A、It's a shoe box. B、Tina is my sister. C、So she put on the shoes and left. D、After class she got ready to leave. E、But there was no name on the note. |
Our dog Abbey died last month. My 4-year-old daughter Lucy missed her a lot and asked if we could write a letter to God to make sure he could look after Abbey well. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. She dictated (口述) these words:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog?{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Lucy
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Lucy and addressed it to God Heaven. Yesterday, we received a package addressed, “To Lucy” with this note:
Dear Lucy,
Abbey has arrived in heaven.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. You don't need to worry about her. She's being looked after very well here. Thank you for the beautiful letter. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. You have a wonderful mother. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I'm easy to find. I am wherever there is love.
Love, God
