A funny thing happened to my sister Tina last month. She lives in Japan and teaches English. In Japan, people don't usually wear their outdoor shoes in the house or in school, and a lot of buildings have places for shoes. So her school has a special place for shoes. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Tina teaches English in the evening. One Friday, she went to school, and she put her shoes in the shoe box as usual. Then she had an interesting spoken English class with her students. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} But to her surprise, her shoes weren't in the box. There was only one pair of those there, and they weren't her shoes! She had to get home in a hurry. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}
On Monday, at her next English class, her shoes were in a shopping bag on her desk! There was a note that said, “I'm so sorry. I took your shoes by mistake!” {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Somebody felt a lot of shame!

    Our dog Abbey died last month. My 4-year-old daughter Lucy missed her a lot and asked if we could write a letter to God to make sure he could look after Abbey well. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. She dictated (口述) these words:

Dear God,

    Will you please take care of my dog?{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

    We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Lucy and addressed it to God Heaven. Yesterday, we received a package addressed, “To Lucy” with this note:

Dear Lucy,

    Abbey has arrived in heaven.

    An officer（军官）is at a bus stop. He wants to see his girlfriend by bus. He wants to tell his girlfriend the time of his bus, and then she can meet him at the stop in her car. He wants to call his girlfriend on a pay phone（付费电话）,but he doesn't have a coin（硬币）for the phone. He wants someone to help him.

    A soldier（士兵）is near the stop. The officer walks to the soldier and asks,“Do you have any coins for the phone?”

    “Let me have a look,” says the soldier. “I'll see if I can help you.”

    “Don't you know how to speak to an officer?” says the officer. “Now let's say it. Do you have any coins for the phone?”

    “No, sir,” says the soldier.

    It was Mother's Day. Chatham was driving his new blue car and enjoying the beauty of nature. A flower shop by the road came into his eyes. So he stopped his car and took a look at some of the flowers. Just then he found a small, cute girl standing next to the shop. She was counting the money in her hand. It seemed that she was a little unhappy.

    He went up to her and asked, "Can I help you?"

    "I want to buy some red flowers for my mother. But I have only eighty rupees(卢比)," said the girl.

    Chatham smiled and asked her to take him to the shop. He bought a big bouquet(花束)for her and said, "I can take you to your mother." The girl was very happy.

    Finally they got to a grave. "Thank you, Uncle." Then she ran to the grave and put the roses in front of it.

    Chatham stood there without words in a minute. He then made a U-turn(掉头)and drove back to the same flower shop. He picked some pink roses and drove down two hundred miles to meet his old mother.

    His mother was happy to see him. But she said, "Why do you drive down all the way? You could talk to me over the phone. "

    He just kissed his mother and said, "Happy Mother's Day!"

    On March 14, one of science's brightest stars went dark, Stephen Hawking, the world-famous British scientist, died at 76 in Cambridge, UK.

    Hawking is considered by many to be the greatest scientist in history since Albert Einstein. He came up with the theory that the universe began with the Big bang and will end in black holes. His theories became the base for a lot of later research. He also wrote books to help common people understand the universe. His most famous book is A Brief History of Time, which has sold more than 1o million copies around the world, according to CNN. Besides his scientific achievements, Hawking was also someone who had a strong will. when he was 21, he got a serious illness that stopped him from walking and talking Later in life, he had to sit in a wheelchair and speak using a computerized voice. But this didn't stop him from living a meaningful and colorful life

    He celebrated his 60th birthday by going up in a hot-air balloon; when he was 65, he took part in a zero-gravity (=Ee flight to experience weightlessness. He hoped to travel into space one day. In 2015, Hawking spoke about how he felt life was unfair when he first knew about his illness. But now, 50 years later, I can be quietly satisfied with my life, he said

    Calvin needs to go to New York for a meeting this Saturday. It's sunny. It's his first time to go to New York, so he doesn't know his way(路) around New York. The meeting is in Peterson Building on 34th Street and it starts at ten o'clock. He wants to get there on time, so he asks two American boys for help.

    "Excuse me, could you tell me where 34th Street is?" asks Calvin.

    "Sure," answers one of the boys." It's not far from here. And you can just walk along this street and turn left at the first crossing. Then you can see it on your right."

    "No. Don't listen to him. He is not telling you the right place. You can just take the No.7 bus and get off at the third stop," says the other boy.

    Then the first boy says, "OK. But the third stop is not 34th Street. It's 35th Street."

    At this time, Calvin finds that there's only five minutes left(剩下). Then he gets into a taxi(出租车) and leaves. After that, Calvin thinks he should ask a policeman for help next time.
