Be honest. That's all you have to do on Honesty Day. It would be great if we were all honest every day of the year. It's good that there is a day to encourage honesty. M. Hirsh Goldberg started Honesty Day. He chose the last day of April because the first day is April Fool's Day, which celebrates lies. On Honesty Day, anyone may ask you any question and you should give a true and honest answer. That means that you have knowledge of Honesty Day.

M. Hirsh Goldberg wrote a book on telling lies. He said in his book mat almost all person lie about 200 times a day. In our daily life, a typical(典型的) life for a man is "I did not drink that much” and for a woman is "Nothing is wrong I'm fine.” It is found that nurses are the most honest people, while sales people and politicians(政客) are the biggest liars.

    Every Honesty Day, M. Hirsh Goldberg hands out prizes to honest people.

    Peter is eight years old, and he goes to a school near his house. He always goes there and comes home on foot. He usually gets back on time, but last Friday he came home from school late. His mother saw him and said to him, "Why are you late today, Peter?" "My teacher was angry and told me to see the headmaster after class," Peter answered. "To see the headmaster?" his mother asked. "Why did she tell you to see him?" "Because she asked a question in class," Peter said, "And nobody could answer it except me." His mother became angry. "But why did your teacher tell you to see the headmaster then?" she asked. "Because her question was 'Who put the glue (胶水) on my chair?'" Peter said.

    My grandfather had a small farm. He also worked in a factory.

    One autumn, he promised to help his neighbor harvest(收获) his corn. But after harvesting his own corn, Grandpa's little machine broke down. At the same time, the factory where Grandpa worked began to require overtime(加班). He had to leave the farm early in the morning and didn't get home until after sunset. It now seemed impossible to help out his neighbor.

    One night, Grandpa decided that he wouldn't let his neighbor's harvest rot(腐烂) in the field. Without a machine, he would harvest it by hand.

    "When do you think you'll have time to do it?" asked my grandma. "Besides, it'd be too dark." "There's still one more full moon in October. If the weather is clear, I think I can do it，" he said.

    And so a few days later, after lots of busy work at the factory, my grandpa made his way to the field. The weather was cold but clear, and the moon was glowing(发光). He worked through the night to keep his word.

    Sometimes, when I want to put off responsibilities(责任), I'd see my grandfather cutting corn in the light of the harvest moon.

    As far back as he could remember, Larry had wanted to go to Hollywood and become a film star. The young man's hopes for success were broken again and again. However, Hollywood was just everything to him. When he first came to California? Larry had decided never to give up and return home without success. Therefore, he kept on trying. "Some day," he told himself, "my big chance would come."

    Larry found a job—parking cars at one of Hollywood's big restaurants. His pay was low, but since the guests were kind enough to give him more money, he managed to make a living. One day he recognized an important film director driving into the parking lot and getting out of his car. Larry had recently heard that the man was ready to make a new picture.

    Larry got into the car and prepared to drive it on into the lot and park it. Then he stopped, jumped out, and ran over to the director. "Excuse me, sir, but I think it's only fair to tell you that it's now or never if you want me in your next picture. A lot of big companies are after me."

Instead of pushing away the boy, the director laughed, then wrote something on a card and handed it to the young man. "Come and see me tomorrow."

    Larry got a small part in the director's next film. He was on his way!
