Korean（韩国的）culture is really exciting right now. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  Young people are going crazy about Korean TV plays ,Korean pop songs ,taekwondo and the Korean language .
   The Korean Wave started a few years ago with the TV series（连续剧）Winter Sonata.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}  People ,especially girls ,like the beautiful story and good-looking actors（演员）like Bae Young Jun .{#blank#}3{#/blank#} You can often find big Korean names like Baby Vox ,S.E.S. and Finkle at the top of the Chinese music charts( 排行榜).
   The Korean Wave has also made young people want to try the clothes and hairstyles of pop stars .Not only that ,some girls in China are having plastic surgery（整容）to change the way they look. People say some beautiful Korean stars have had plastic surgery.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} .

    A 50-year-old American officer came back to his school. The teacher asked him to give a talk to the small boys and girls there. The talk was about the love of their great country. All the little ones were sitting in a large meeting room. The old officer went up and began speaking. He said, “Boys and girls, I studied in this school forty years ago. When I was your age, we were not as happy as you are today. Think about it and answer me. Why are you so happy now?”

    No sound came from the children. The old man waited for a long time. Then a short boy in front put up his small dirty hand. “Good boy! Please answer me, dear.” said the officer.

    With a big smile on his face, the boy stood up and said, “If you speak long enough, we won't have Maths and Biology lessons this morning.”

    Mayme Clayton collected books， magazines and letters written by African Americans. Her son， Avery Clayton， thought her collection was important. Unlike most books， these were rare and hard to find. They were written by writers who helped shape African American culture.

    One book in the collection was written by Phillis Wheatley. Wheatley was a slave who wrote poetry. She was the first African American to publish a book. Wheatley herself signed (签名) the book in the Claytons' collection. No one else owns a copy signed by Phillis Wheatley.

    By the time she passed away at age 83， Mrs. Clayton had more than 30，000 books by or about black people. Her collection also includes papers about slaves， photographs， movies， sheet music， and personal letters by black leaders and artists. It is one of the biggest personal collections of African American history and culture in the United States.

    Avery Clayton's dream was to create a museum for his mother's treasures.  Scholars say that Mrs. Clayton's collection is very important. Without her work， part of African American heritage (遗产) would have been lost. “We didn't know these things existed，” says Sara Hadron of California's Huntington Library.

    The collections new home is likely to be in Culver City， California. Part of Avery Clayton's dream is to share the cultural riches his mother collected with others. He especially wants children to have a chance to see the collection. “ At present African American culture is being explained by pop culture，” he says， “ It's important to offer a more complete picture.”

    There was a tree in my garden. One day, two birds came to the tree and built a house for their three babies. One day, I heard the sound of these birds. I ran to the garden and found two babies eating food on the ground. A few minutes later, the father bird and the mother bird came back. They brought some food for the third baby. The father bird put the food on the ground，far away from the third baby. To get the food, the baby had to fly to it.

    The third baby was hungry, but she was afraid to get out of the nest. To my surprise, the father bird and the mother bird just stood there and did nothing.

    After about ten minutes, the third baby bird didn't have any other choice. She slowly went to the border (边缘) of the nest and began to fly. Finally, she landed safely on the ground and enjoyed the food. Just like the birds, if you want to get something you want, you must depend on yourself.

    Laurence Kim was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 11, 1951. He was not like other children when he was young. A medical scan (扫描) showed that the two halves of his brain were not connected in the usual way. He developed an amazing memory. He started to read when he was two. He remembered everything he had read.

    To read more quickly, he read the left page with his left eye and the right page with his right eye. By reading the two pages at the same time, ⑴看完一本书花他不到一小时的时间。By the age of 30, he had memorized around 12,000 books.

    However, he did not develop so well in other areas. ⑵He could not walk before four years old, and he had problems putting on his clothes and shoes. His social skills were poor, and he was extremely sensitive (敏感的) about new people. In 1984, Peek and his father met Hollywood movie writer Barry Morrow. Morrow was fascinated by Peek and began to write a new play about Peek's experiences. The movie Rain Man won an Oscar for Best Picture in 1988. ⑶This changed Peek's life. ⑷He got used to being the center of attention. He became more self-confident. He appeared on TV and traveled around the country with his father to develop awareness(意识) of his condition.

    Peek was not only an amazing man but also a real Rain Man. Sadly, Peek died of a heart attack in 2009.

    Rishi was a 10-year-old boy. Just like any other boy of his age, he hardly did the housework his parents told him to do, and usually he would completely ignore(忽视) them.

    It was a 5-day holiday. He spent a good time with his mother. She took him for outings. They went to the beach and parks and had delicious meals. She cooked his favourite foods and played with him. Three days was left and Rishi's mother wanted him to clean the house with her. To her surprise, he agreed and did everything well.

    After Rishi finished the work his mother asked him to do, he gave her a piece of paper written by him. She was greatly surprised to see what he wrote.

She didn't say a word and wrote on a piece of paper and gave it to her son. She wrote:

    The boy was in tears and rushed to his mum and gave her a big hug. He told his mother, "Mum, I love you. I'm sorry for everything." Rishi's mother kissed him on his forehead.
