We were standing at the top of a church not far from my home. I didn't know why.
“Look down,” Father said. I tried and saw the square in the center of the village. And I saw the streets to the square. “See, Elsa,”Father said. “There is more than one way to the square. If you can't get where you want to go by one road, try another.”

Greg Woodburn, a university student, spends a lot of time cleaning sports shoes. Some of them once belonged to him; some belonged to his friends. But soon the shoes will have new owners, poor children in the USA and 20 other countries, thanks to Greg's Share Our Soles(鞋底) (S.O.S) charity.
Greg was a high school running star in a small town in California. He had to stop running for months because his knee was injured. "I started thinking about all the things I got from running, the health, the friendships and the confidence."he says. And I realized there are children who don't even have shoes.
Greg collected his own sports shoes and then called his friends and the town. His aim was to have 100 pairs by Christmas 2006. When the number climbed to more than 500 pairs. Greg know that he could collect sports shoes all year round.
Now he has set up collection boxes in his town. So far, S.O.S has collected and donated more than 3,000 pairs of shoes. And Greg has cleaned almost all of them. “People think of it as duty work,”he says, "but I like doing it, because I feel happy when I'm doing it. It's not work I want to pass on to someone else.”
In just three years, Greg has started three branches(分部) of S.O.S and there are more and more sports shoes.
For many poor children who have received the shoes mean opportunity. Two young boys in southern California used to go to school on alternate days(隔日) because they both shared a pair of shoes. They were too big for one boy and too small for the other. Thanks to S.O.S, each brother received his own pair of shoes. The boys now go to school every day. When they graduate, they say they will help others, just as Greg helped them.

On a winter afternoon, my friends and I were throwing stones onto the roof of an old lady's house. The old lady was my customer(顾客) on the newspaper route. We just wanted to see how the stones rolled off the roof's edge (边缘). I found an exactly smooth rock and threw it out, but it 1 into a small window of the old lady's house. At the sound of broken glass, we knew we were in trouble. We ran home fast. I was so 2 about getting caught that first night. However, a few days later I started to feel guilty (内疚的) for her bad luck. She 3 greeted me with a smile when I gave her the newspaper, but I was no longer able to act comfortably. I made up my mind that I would save my newspaper delivery money, and in three weeks I had seven dollars. I put the money in an envelope with a 4 explaining that I was sorry for breaking her window and hope that the seven dollars would cover the cost for repairing it. I waited until it was 5 and put the letter I didn't sign into her yard. The next day, I 6 the old lady her newspaper. She thanked me for my paper and gave me a bag of cookies she had made herself. While eating cookies, I felt an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. After opening it. Inside were the seven dollars and a short note saying, "I'm proud of you."

These days, if you want to travel from New York to Beijing, the flight will take about 16 hours. You also have to wait at the airport, and sometimes you have to transfer onto a different airplane. If you add up all of the time, the trip will take at last 20 hours. But in the future, the trip from New York to Beijing might only take two hours.

Right now, a company is developing (开发) something called ET3—"evacuated tube (真空管) transport technology". Here's how it works. A tube goes all the way from New York to Beijing. The tube is only a few meters wide. Capsules (舱) move through the tube. Six people can sit in one capsule.

For international travel, the capsules can travel at about 6,500 kilometers per hour. Why can they travel so fast? Because there isn't any air in the ET3 tubes, the capsules can move at such a high speed. Also, the capsules are quite light. Each only weighs 183 kilograms. There are other advantages (优点) of ET3. Because it use electricity, it's quite clean. Also, it's a lot quieter than air planes and cars. Last, ET3 tube and capsules don't need much building materials.

Of course, there are still some problems about ET3. The biggest problem is that right now it would cost a lot to build ET3. To lower the cost, we will need much better technology.

However, it's still exciting to think of how ET3 will change the travel in the future. Who knows? Maybe someday you can have lunch in New York and dinner in Beijing.

When it comes to traveling, most people would choose to go with their families or friends. But now, many are choosing new travel. buddies--their pets. Zeng Qingbin is one such person. Over the past eight years, the 35-year- old from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, has traveled across the country with his dogs--a Shiba Inu named Chai Chai and a Labrador retriever called Ba Bao. In Zeng's eyes, these dogs are like his children. "I've always dreamed of letting them run freely on wide grasslands with snow-capped mountains in the background," Zeng said.

As-traveling with pets becomes more popular in China, related services are also growing.

Zhang Wei, who specializes (专门从事) in pet hiking, has organized about 180 pet trips since 2022. Each trip usually includes two to five professional guides for groups of up to 30 owners and their dogs. " ★  and all the guides are trained to deal with various emergencies (紧急情况) in the mountains," Zhang said. What's more, Zhang's team asks pet owners to fill out a form about their dogs to provide a better service before a trip.

At the same time, airlines have begun offering charter (包租) services for pet owners to travel across the country and even internationally.

On June 14, China's first outbound (出境的) charter flight allowing pets landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport after taking 60 tourists and 18 pet dogs to Thailand. There will be more trips to South Korea, Southeast Asia and Europe.

Though pet tourism is still in its early stages and faces many challenges in China, it is becoming a promising area for exploration in the tourism industry (行业), experts said.
