   There are many kinds of exercises. Bending (弯腰) and stretching (伸展) helps us move easily. Before we play ball games or swim, it is better for us to do bending and stretching exercises first. This kind of exercise is sometimes called warm-up exercise. Running is also a good exercise. If we cannot run fast, we can Jog. Jogging means running slowly.     How do we know what's right or wrong in English? Languages such as French and Spanish each has an official(官方的) organization that tells you what's correct. But there is nothing like that in English. So what can we do?

    There is, of course, Standard English. This is the kind of English you read in newspapers or in formal letters. It is also the English you learn at school or in textbooks.

    However, Standard English is not official English. And unbelievably, linguists(语言学家) think Standard English is on the same level as all other types of English such as Cockney English, Yorkshire English, South African English, Australian English, Singaporean English… And according to linguists, there is no such thing as Standard Spoken English.

    English is changing all the time. Every year, new words appear and others disappear. Words change too. For example, for many years, the Latin word “agendum” was the accepted singular form and “agenda” was the plural form. However, these days, very few people use the Latin-sounding“agendum”, with “agenda” being the accepted singular form, and “agendas” the plural.

Newspapers each has their own style when they write certain things. For example,The Guardian puts dates like “21 July 2011”(with the day first, followed by the month and no commas). However, the news agency Reuters writes them like this “July 21, 2011”(with the month first, and a comma(逗号) between the day and the year). Other newspapers have different ways of doing it too. So, as you can see, there's no one “correct” way —there's a variety of ways and each one is acceptable.

    Next time someone tells you that something is wrong, tell them that it isn't wrong, It is just English.

(Each answer should be no more than four words)

    TFK Kid Reporter Dahlia Suiter spoke with the writer of Writer to Writer: From Think to Ink.

    You just said that you didn't think you'd become a writer. Why?

    I didn't know what I would be. There were times when I wanted to be a scientist. I loved reading about biology.

    ①{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    I never thought about writing stories for adults (成年人). It was always for children because when I was a child, books were so important to me.

    ②{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Revision(修改) is my favorite part. If I can add (增加) something surprising at the same time, I'm happy about that, too.

    ③{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Writing is hard, and if you're not having fun with it, why do it? "Save ( 保存) what you write" is very important because you may need it. You may need that part you cut.

    ④{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    I hope the book will open up new places to go with writing.

    ⑤{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    Yes. Writing can be a good way to discover (发现) yourself. You learn about yourself when you write. Writing also slows your thinking down, and you can make discoveries and go places that you don't expect.

A. Do you think it's very important for kids to practice writing?

B. What do you hope kids will learn from Writer to Writer?

C. Why did you write "Have fun, and save what you write!" at the end of each part in Writer to Writer?

D. What do you enjoy most about writing?

E. Why do you write children's books?

    Robert and Henry were going home from school, when Robert shouted on a corner, “A fight! Let's go and see!”

    “No,” said Henry, “Let's go quietly home and not join in this fight. We have nothing to do with it, and may get into trouble.”

    “You are a coward(懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and he ran off. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school, as usual.

    But Robert had told all the kids that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him. However, Henry had learned that true courage is shown most in being prepared to be laughed at in order to do the right thing. 43 He knew that he should not be afraid of anything, except doing wrong. A few days after, Robert was swimming with some schoolmates. He got into water that was too deep for him. He cried for help.

    The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of water as fast as they could. They didn't even try to help Robert. Robert was sinking(下沉) fast when Henry threw off his clothes and jumped into the water. He reached Robert just as he was sinking. 44 With much danger to himself, Henry tried his best to bring Robert to the bank and saved his life.

    Robert and his schoolmates were ashamed(愧疚的) at having called Henry a coward. They agreed that he had more courage than any of them.

    Never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do wrong.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}⑴The most unusual museum in London is the Science Museum. In most museums, there's no shouting and no running, and people aren't allowed to touch the exhibits (陈设品). But the Science Museum is different. It's noisy! People can talk about what they will see and do there, and some of the machines are noisy as well.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}⑵When I visit the Science Museum, I go to the Launchpad (发射台). This is the most popular room because there are lots of physics tests. That means we can drop by for a few minutes or we can stay as long as we like—it's open from 10: 00 a. m. to 6: 00 p. m.every day except Monday. So if you go to London, make sure you visit the Science Museum. It's my favorite museum in the whole world.
