There once lived in China a very foolish king and queen. One day the queen had a baby daughter. When they saw their baby, they both cried out, “My goodness! How small it is! It's hairless and toothless! It's a monster!” They sent for all the doctors in the country and ordered them to prepare some medicine for her.
“When she drinks your medicine, she must grow to the right size and have hair and teeth,” the king said, “If you don't do this, you'll have a beating.”
The doctors thought it impossible, but they dared not say anything against the king's order. Just then and old doctor stepped forward. “Oh, we shall certainly obey your order,” he said, “but it takes time.     Jackson was excited! He and his family were on their way to the White House, Jackson could not wait to see the President's official residence. He had been reading all about it so that he might recognize some things he saw. After standing in a long line, Jackson, his sister, and their parents were allowed to enter the 132-room, six-floor mansion. They entered through the East Wing. Jackson knew that he and his family were only four of the 6, 000 people who would visit this incredible house that day.

The first room they were shown by the guide was the State Dining Room. Jackson learned that 140 dinner guests could cat there at one time. "What a great place for a huge birthday party!"Jackson thought.

The Red Room was shown next. Red stain(绸缎)adorned its walls. The third room the visitors entered was the Blue Room. This room serves as the main reception room for the President's guests. Jackson wondered when the President would be out to greet him. After all, he was a guest, too.

The Green Room was the fourth room on the tour. Jackson and his family were not surprised to find green silk covering the walls in this room.

The last room was the biggest room in the White House. It is called the East Room. Here guests are entertained after formal dinners. Jackson wondered if they could vary the entertainment by rolling in huge movie screens so they could all watch the latest movies. He wondered if kids were invited sometimes; maybe they had huge, bouncy boxes you could jump in. Perhaps they even set up huge ramps(坡道)so all the kids could practice skateboarding and roller blading. How fun!

Jackson loved his tour of the White House. He was just sorry that he did not get to see the living parts of the President's family. He wondered if the President had to make his bed every day!

A few years ago, I had a wonderful Christmas experience that finally changed how I celebrated the festival. Now I've decided to 1  it with all of you.

Before that Christmas, I was running around like a crazy person to get 2  ready. One day I took my three little kids to the market to buy the last things for the next day. After walking and shopping for a long time, I was terribly 3  and kept thinking to myself, "What is the true 4  of Christmas?"

When I was walking towards the exit(出口) after I finished 5 , I noticed an old man sitting on the bench 6  an envelope in his hand. He handed something to a well-dressed, 7  man and said, "Merry Christmas!" It was a $20 bill. The young man was in great 8  and asked, "Are you serious?""Yes. Merry Christmas, " he replied. So the young man got the money and left 9

"What's he doing?"I was more puzzled(困惑的) 10  I saw him giving more bills to some other shoppers. Just then he 11  and walked over to me. Then he pulled a $50 bill out of his envelope and handed it to me, saying "Merry Christmas!"

My face turned 12  and said, "Sir, I don't need fifty dollars. ""Well, then, " he smiled and said, "find someone who does. Merry Christmas!" And he left 13 . What a kind man he was and how many people he helped out that day! All of a sudden, for the 14  time I felt the real Christmas spirit. And I decided I'd spread his spirit and find someone who 15  that $50. From then on, I was used to teaching my kids about love and kindness and letting them feel the spirit of Christmas. Merry Christmas, everyone!
