There once lived in China a very foolish king and queen. One day the queen had a baby daughter. When they saw their baby, they both cried out, “My goodness! How small it is! It's hairless and toothless! It's a monster!” They sent for all the doctors in the country and ordered them to prepare some medicine for her.
“When she drinks your medicine, she must grow to the right size and have hair and teeth,” the king said, “If you don't do this, you'll have a beating.”
The doctors thought it impossible, but they dared not say anything against the king's order. On a winter morning, a little boy of 10 years old or so went to a phone supermarket to make a telephone call. Clearly, he changed his tone (腔调) of voice while speaking over the phone. When all this was happening, the phone supermarket owner watched and listened with great interest to the conversation that followed:

"Madam, I am a poor boy. Can you give me a job cutting grass on your lawn (草坪)?" the little boy asked.

"Sorry, I already have someone to cut my lawn," the woman at the other end of the phone line answered.

"Madam, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now."

"The person who is now cutting my lawn satisfies me a lot. He is doing a good job."

"Madam, I'll even sweep your curb (清扫路边), so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach, Florida."

"No, thank you."

Instead of getting angry, the little boy smiled and put back the receiver (话筒) gently. The supermarket owner, who was listening to the conversation, walked over to the boy and said, "Soon, I like your manner and I would like to offer you a job."

"No, thanks. But I will remember your offer."

"But you were asking for a job so sincerely and seriously when you were talking to the lady over the phone."

"No sir, I was just checking how well or badly I've done the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!" the little boy said.

Enjoying the beauty of the sky at night is a difficult thing for people in cities since light pollution destroys everything. 1 , photos taken by astrophotographers (天文摄影师) offer people chances 2 the beautiful stars.

Zhang Jingyi, 27, is 3 space lover and full - time astrophotographer. When Zhang was asked 4 she chose this career, she answered, "Because we all dream of living on a planet far from us. Doesn't it sound 5 ?"

With the fast development of China's space science, Zhang started to record rocket launching moments. "I carefully follow the development of the Tiangong space station with one of my favourite 6 . Every launch 7 me a strong sense of achievement. " she said. And then she added, "Some photographers 8 sell their work-some photos even reach six digits (六位数), but I believe that my photos are priceless and cannot 9 . " As a famous user on Sina Weibo with 10 followers, Zhang also films videos to give her audience a much 11 impression on her works, so that she can have more followers.

Do you know cosmic radiation(宇宙辐射)? Have you ever seen the auroras ( 极 光 ) in the sky? Cosmic radiation creates these pretty lights in the North and South Pole areas. It seems that cosmic radiation is a beautiful gift from space. But for some people, it can be dangerous.

A 53-year-old flight attendant(空中乘务员) in South Korea, who spent about 1, 022 hours flying each year, passed away due to cancer. His death was thought to be connected to great exposure (暴露) to cosmic radiation. During his lifetime, nearly half of his flights crossed the areas in and around the North Pole, where cosmic radiation is very strong.

Cosmic radiation from space is hitting Earth nonstop, coming from both the sun and other stars in the sky.

____ . Earth's magnetic field (磁场) and atmosphere (大气层) protect us from most cosmic radiation. The magnetic field is the strongest near the equator and the weakest at the poles. People living at higher latitudes (纬度), like in Heilongjiang province, are exposed to a bit more cosmic radiation than those living at lower latitudes, like in Hainan province. Also, when you go higher in an airplane, the thin atmosphere increases exposure to cosmic radiation.

Cosmic radiation can create health risks. However, what makes cosmic radiation dangerous also makes it useful. The high speed and energy of cosmic radiation have provided wonderful ideas for treating some cancer. Scientists can now produce man-made radiation similar to cosmic radiation. Compared to the present ways of treating cancer, it can work better with less harm to healthy parts of the body around them.
