Jack's friend Sally isn't fine these days.

    Mobile phone has become a problem for middle schools. Some middle schools in Australia have banned students from carrying mobile phones during school hours.

    Mobile phone use among children has become a problem for the school this year. Several children have got mobile phones as Christmas gifts, and more students will want them.

    Mary Bluett, an official, said mobile phone's use is a distraction to students during school hours and it also gives teachers so much trouble in their classrooms. Teachers were also saying that sometimes students might use phone messages to cheat during exams.

    She said some schools had tried to ban mobile phones. Some parents felt unhappy because they couldn't get in touch with their children.

    Many teachers said students should not have mobile phones at school, but if there was a good reason, they could leave their phones at school office. They also said there were many reasons why the students should not have mobile phones at school: they were easy to lose and were a distraction（分散注意力） from studies.

    Many people say that they understand why parents would want their children to have phones, but they think schools should let the students know when they can use their mobile phones.

    A Greeting is a way of saying "Hello" to．someone．People in different countries greet each other in different ways．The following are some examples．

    In the United State，people usually shake hands．The handshake has an interesting origin(起源)．It started long ago as a way of showing people that they weren't carrying a weapon(武器)．Shaking the person's right hand while looking him or her in the eye is the usual way．

    Handshakes are also common in other parts of the world，including Britain and Russia．In Russia, a man often holds another man's hand very strongly during the handshake．Most people in New Zealand also greet each other by shaking hands．However，the Maori people in New Zealand greet each other by pressing their noses together．

    In other countries，such as France and Belgium，hugging and kissing are more common when two people meet. In those cultures，people kiss each other on the cheek(面额)．The number of kisses is different from country to country．In Saudi Arabia，men might hug and kiss each other(but not with a woman)on the check．In some Eastern countries，including Japan，bowing is the traditional way of greeting people．

A. A fire engine will arrive quickly. The firemen know what to do. They have long ladders to reach high windows.

B. If you want to be a fireman，you must be strong and healthy. A fireman has to be able to carry heavy things. He has to be able to climb ladders and to work in high places. So he also has to be brave.

    The holiday is coming to us. Finally, after months of study, you have some time to yourself. So, why not read a book? Well, some people will say, "Why do you like reading books? We have Internet.     One clear reason is that a well-chosen book can give you a lot of wonderful words, as long as you have a good dictionary, of course. Believe me, it's far easier to get new words from a book or an article than it is from the TV or the Internet.

    But another more important point is that books give you something that the Internet can not. The general webpage(网页) is picture-heavy and the text is as easy to read as possible. While "easy" may attract you, unluckily it's not helpful for any long-term development of reading skills and the general language level. Because of that, reading on the Internet can't take the place of reading books.

    But perhaps the best reason is that just choosing what you read and doing it independently means that it's something you do by and for yourself. You can choose what you want to read. It's hard work, but you'll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure.
