When people say"culture", we think of art and history. But one very famous symbol in American culture is a cartoon. We all know and love the black mouse {#blank#}1{#/blank#} two large round ears—Mickey Mouse. Over 80 years ago, he first appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. When this cartoon came out in New York on November 18, 1928, it was the first cartoon with sound and music. The man behind Mickey was Walt Disney. He became very {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (success). In the 1930s, he made 87 cartoons with Mickey. 

Some people might ask how this cartoon animal became so popular. One of the main {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (reason) is that Mickey was like a common man, but he always tried to face any danger. In his early films, Mickey was {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(lucky) and had many problems, such as {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (lose) his house or girlfriend, Minnie. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, he was always ready to try his best. People went to the cinema to see the "little man" win. Most of them wanted to be like Mickey.

On November 18,1978, Mickey became {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（one）cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today's cartoons are usually not so {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(simple) as little Mickey Mouse, but everyone still {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (know) and loves him. Who has a pair of ears {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(famous) than Mickey's?

    We have a two-day holiday every week. We don't have any lessons on Saturdays or Sundays, so every weekend I have a good time.

    On weekends, I like taking a trip. I sometimes go to the country with my classmates by bus to breathe(呼吸) the fresh air, watch the green hills and the blue sea, and walk in the beauty of the countryside. Sometimes I go for a picnic in the open air with my friends by bike. There we draw many pictures and take photos. Sometimes I go to visit a place of interest with my parents by car.

    Sometimes on Saturdays, I take a long trip with my parents. We don't go home at night and make a fire on the hill. We sit around it, singing and dancing happily. If we feel tired, we get together, look at the stars and chat for a long time. And then sleep for a few hours.

    My weekends are always full of interest and happiness.

    Some people seem to have extraordinary (非凡的）memories. Zheng Aiqiang, a “memory athlete” on TV show Super Brain, can remember 2,660 numbers in just one hour!

    You would think people like this have special brains. But according to a recent study by researchers from the US and the Netherlands, the brain structures（结构）of ordinary people and 23 of the world's leading memory athletes show no difference.

    That's because good memories can be trained. New research in the journal Neuron (神经元期刊) suggests that you can become a super memorizer with just six weeks of hard training.

    Researchers found that technique (技巧）called loci, invented by ancient Greeks, can greatly help improve memory. By using loci, you are using your imagination to improve the brain's memory networks. You can link（关联）something you need to remember with a place that you know very well. For example, to remember a list of numbers, imagine yourself walking through your house. Each thing is linked to a number. For example, zero could be handle（把手）on the door and five could be the painting on the wall.

    In one study, some ordinary people were given 20 minutes to remember 72 words. First they could only remember 26 of them. But when they were taught loci, they could remember 62 words.

    “Not everyone can become a memory champion. But everyone using the technique can improve a lot from the level they're at,” said Boris Konrad, one of the researchers in the study.

    Harbin Opera House (哈尔滨大剧院) lies on Harbin Cultural Island, near the Songhua River. It took people about six years to complete the whole project and it opened in 2015. Its building style belongs to a future time. With the size of 7,900m², it is considered as the performing arts centre in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Its special surface allows more light to enter. Its two theaters, the large theatre and the small one, can hold about 2,000 people. The project is a complete success. Harbin Opera House has enjoyed many prizes and great fame from home and abroad since people began to plan it. People say it's one of the most beautiful buildings in China and it is the world's best concert halls. There is no doubt that it has become the new symbol of Harbin.
