Reading newspapers has become an important part of everyday life. Some {#blank#}1{#/blank#} read newspapers as the first thing to do in the morning, others read newspapers as soon as they have free time during the day so that they can learn what is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in the world.

    Sometimes, we do not have enough time to read all the news {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, so we just take a quick look at the front page. At other times, we may be so busy {#blank#}4{#/blank#} we only have a few minutes to look at the names of the passages.

    Newspapers can be {#blank#}5{#/blank#} everywhere in the world. We can get many different kinds of newspapers in big cities, but in some mountain villages we can see {#blank#}6{#/blank#} newspapers.

    Some newspapers are published once a week, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} most of the papers are published once a day with many pages, some even published twice a day! You know different people enjoy reading different newspapers. Some like world news, and others prefer short stories. They just choose what they are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in.

    Today newspapers in English have the largest number of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} in the world. The English language is popular, and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} Chinese students are reading English newspapers such as China Daily and 21^st Century. They bring us more and more messages together with the Internet.

    In 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, only white people were {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to sit in the first four rows of public buses. African-American people had to use the seats towards the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the bus.

    If someone {#blank#}3{#/blank#} was African-American sat in the white part, he or she would be asked to move.

    One day, an African-American named Rosa Parks was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in a “whites only” part of the bus.

    The bus was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and some white people needed a seat, so the driver asked Rosa Parks to give {#blank#}6{#/blank#} her seat.

    But she refused. She was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} after a long day working in a store and she felt she should have the right to sit {#blank#}8{#/blank#} she wanted, so she told the driver “no”.

    For that, she was arrested (逮捕). She was tried for just 30 minutes and fined (罚款) $10—a lot of money in those days.

    She also {#blank#}9{#/blank#} her job because of that.

    Today, in the United States, December 1 is a {#blank#}10{#/blank#} called Rosa Parks Day. Rosa Parks is celebrated for her action and bravery.

    Making decisions quickly is not an Arab custom. Arabs like to think for a long time before making a decision. Give yourself lots of time and ask lots of questions when you do{#blank#}1{#/blank#}with them.

    When an Arab says "yes", he may mean "maybe". When he says "maybe", he{#blank#}2{#/blank#} means "no". You will hardly get a direct "no" from an Arab because it is{#blank#}3{#/blank#}to be impolite. A smile and a nod might seem like an agreement, but{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, your host is just being polite. An Arab considers it impolite to disagree with a guest.
