Though chopsticks are used in many Asian countries, they have their beginning in China. Chinese history says that the Chinese had chopsticks as far as the Xia Dynasty(朝代)(about 4, 00 years ago). In the Spring and Autumn Period(时期) copper and iron chopsticks appeared. With the Han Dynasty lacquered(上漆) chopsticks came, followed by gold and silver chopsticks still later. Today we have chopsticks made of plastics. The most expensive are made of part of tusks of elephants and hard green stone.

Chopsticks tell Chinese tradition in their way. In ancient (古代的) times the rich used hard green stone or gold chop-sticks to show their wealth(富有). In history many kings used silver chopsticks to take their food to see if it was poisonous(有毒的). It was said that if it was, the silver chopsticks would turn colour. Chopsticks are traditionally given to a daughter when she marries to show that they should have a son very soon, for “Chopsticks” in Chinese is pronounced like “quick a son”!

Tianzhu chopsticks from Hangzhou, wooden chopsticks from Shanyang of Shanxi Province, and Beijing's chopsticks are well-known.

Many westerners, businessmen, tourists put aside(一边) their knives and forks in favour(爱好) of chopsticks in China. Chopsticks appeared in the old Chinese story: an old man teaches his sons a lesson by showing how he could easily break a single chopstick but not a number of them. In China, chopsticks are connected with good luck. So on the country's New Year's Eve many families will lay out new chopsticks at dinners as a way of making requests for luck.

①Most people who move to a foreign country may experience a period of time when they feel very homesick and have a lot of stress. This feeling is often called "culture shock (文化冲击)". It is important to understand it and learn how to deal with it if you want to adapt successfully to your new home's culture.

②There are four stages that you will experience after you move to a foreign country. The first stage is usually referred to as the "excitement" stage. When arriving in a new environment, you'll be interested in the new culture; everything will seem exciting and everyone will seem friendly.

③But it won't be long before you move from the "excitement" stage to the second stage. The excitement you felt before changes to stress. It seems that everything is difficult. The language is hard to learn, friends are difficult to make, and even simple things like shopping have become a challenge. It is at this "stress" stage that you are likely to feel worried and homesick. This is the stage which is referred to as "culture shock".

④However, culture shock doesn't last for very long. If you are one of those who solve it successfully, you'll move to the "recovery" stage. At this stage, you start to understand and accept the way things are done and the way people behave in your new environment.

⑤The last stage is the "home" stage. This is the stage when you start to feel at home in the new culture. You start to learn from your new home and to like something of the new culture better than those of your own culture.

⑥Culture shock is normal. Everyone in a new situation will go through some form of it. Continue to be brave! And overcoming culture shock will be a piece of cake.

According to a study in Nature Climate Change, the population of polar bears will be in serious drop by the year

2080. The cause is melting(融化) sea ice. Without ice, the bears must walk on the bank which is away from their main food source. That means the animals will be in danger because of lacking food.

" There's not enough food on land to support a polar bear population." Doctor Smith, the study's lead writer said. Lacking of food induces another problem. Mother bears may not be fat enough to produce milk for their babies. Some bear populations could stop having babies, leading to a rapid drop in numbers.

Arctic(北极) sea ice usually melts in the spring and summer, and then grows in the winter. But now, the ice is taking longer to grow back. Weather reports say the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet. Ice here has reduced 13% every 10 years since the 1970s. The Arctic is home to about 25,000 polar bears. Scientists have known that the animals are in danger.

But the study also notes that it is still possible to slow Arctic melting. The world can reduce the burning of fossil fuels(石化燃料) and lower the greenhouse gas." Saving the polar bears is up to us, I believe that there is hope. But humans need to act quickly to turn that hope into a reality." Doctor Smith said.

When you cut your skin,you bleed. If a person loses a lot of blood,he will become ill and may die. Blood is very important. People have always known that. At one time some people even drank blood to make them strong!

When doctors understand how blood goes around inside the body,they try ways of giving blood to people who need it. They take blood from the healthy people and give it to people who need it. This is called"blood transfusions". The blood goes from the arm of the healthy person into the of the sick person.

But there are two problems. First,it does not always work. Sometimes people die when they have blood transfusions. Later,doctors find that we do not all have the same kind of blood. There are four groups﹣O,A,B and AB. We all have blood of one of these groups. They also find that they can give any kind of blood to people of group AB. But they find that they must give A-group blood to A-group people and B-group blood to B-group people. I have O-group blood and the doctor told me that I could give blood to anyone else safely.

There is another problem. To give blood of the right kind doctors have to find a person of the right blood group. Often they cannot find a person in time. If they have a way to keep the blood until someone needs it,they can always have the right kind of blood. At first they find they can keep it in bottles for fifteen to twenty days. They do this by making it very cold. Then they find how to keep it longer. In the end they find a way of keeping blood for a very long time.

We call a place where we keep money a"bank". We call a place where we keep blood a"blood bank". One day when you grow up,you may decide to give blood to a"blood bank". In this way you may stop someone from dying. Or perhaps one day you may become ill. You may need blood.

The"blood bank"will give it to you.

A player recently bought himself a two-meter-long golden cudgel (金箍棒) after playing the video game Black Myth: Wukong. It is similar in every de tail to the magic stick from the game.

The stick is now a popular product on Taobao and Tmall. On these platforms, other products co-branded with the game are also selling well.

Black Myth is China's first AAA video game. Since it came out on August 20, it has taken the gaming world by storm. It sold 10 million copies within the first three days. This makes it one of the fastest-selling video games.

Beyond that, the game has had a "Black Myth" effect across several industries. Sales of home video game consoles (游戏机) have increased greatly from last year. Other gaming-related goods like laptops, keyboards, mice and headphones have all seen big increases in sales.

Moreover, its success has led to a travel boom in parts of China. Many scenes in the game are from real places. Players want to follow their hero and visit the same places. As a result, several sites have reported increased tourist activity. Some have even seen ticket sales three times higher than before. For example, the Yuhuang Temple in Shanxi Province, has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. Large number s of visitors go there to see its famous coloured sculptures (彩塑) from the Jin, Yuan and Ming dynasties.
