Paul: Hi, Bill! Have a look atmy house in the country. I'm sure you can enjoy yourself.

Bill: I'd love to.But I hear that the food is not delicious, and your house is not good. Is it so?

Paul: No, that's not true. Go and see!

Then Bill goes to the countryside with Paul.

Bill: Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You would have better food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city.

Paul: Thanks! Maybe you are right. I'll visit your house one day.

Several days later Paul goes to Bill's house in the city. The house is big and beautiful. They are sitting in the sitting-room, having a big dinner comfortably. Suddenly, there a great noise.

Bill: Run! Run! The cat is coming!

Paul: Oh, no! It's terrible! Both the house and the food are nice, but I do not like living in the city. I enjoy living in my hole in the field, for it is nice to be poor but happy than to be rich but afraid.

    My cousin and I have very different living habits. I think I have a good habit. I take an active part in sports. After school, I often play ball games with my classmates. I don't like indoor activities. I'm hardly ill, and I haven't caught colds for years. I get up at the same time every morning and go to bed at the same time every night. I always sleep for nine hours each night, and I always feel refreshed (精力充沛的) in the morning.

    My cousin, however, has a very bad living habit. She never does exercise. She even hates walking to the bus stop from her home. She prefers indoor activities. She likes to play computer games and watch TV. She is overweight and often falls ill. She always goes to bed late and gets up at the last minute. She often feels tired in the morning.

    Mike works very long hours every day. He usually gets up at 5: 00 p.m. He washes his face and makes his meal. What a funny time to make a meal! After eating his meal, he plays his guitar (吉他) for half an hour, then he puts on his jacket and goes to work with his guitar. To get to work, he takes the Number 17 bus to the Star Hotel. The bus usually gets there at about 9: 00 p.m. He works all night. People like to listen to him! He leaves there at 6: 00 a.m., and he watches the early news on TV at home. He goes to bed at 8:3 0 a.m. Do you know what his job is?

    A man got into a train and found himself sitting beside a woman. She was about thirty-five years old. Soon they began talking to each other. He asked her, "Do you have a family?" "Yes, I have one son," the woman answered. "Oh, really?" said the man. "Does he smoke?" "No." The woman answered. "That's good", man was glad to say. "I don't smoke, either. Smoking is bad for one's body son drink wine?"

    "Oh, no," the woman answered at once. "He has never drunk wine." "Good!" the man said. "And does he ever come home late at night?" "No, never," "his neighbour answered. "He goes to bed after dinner every nigh." "Well," the man said. "He's a good young man. How old is he?"

    "He's a good young man He is six months old today," the woman answered with a smile.

    Jan Mela was born in Poland and he lost an arm and a leg in an accident in 2002. But that didn't stop him. The 15-year-old boy from Poland walked to the North Pole(北极) in 2004.

     "If I can do it, other people can do great things, too," Mela said before he went. Polish newspaper said Mela was the youngest person and the first disable(残疾) person to walk to the North Pole. Mela walked to the North Pole with the help of a man-made leg.

    After the accident, Mala felt sad for himself. But he didn't lose hope. One day, he met Marek Kaminski. In 1996, Kaminski went to the North Pole and the South Pole in the same year. Mela wanted to see the North Pole, too. So Mela asked Kaminski if they could go together the next time. Kaminski said yes.

    It took Mela twenty-one days to get to the North Pole. The last three or four days were really hard because of the bad weather. But Mela didn't give up going.

    A poor boy lived in a small town. He sold things from door to door to pay for school. One day, he had only one cent left, and he was hungry. He decided that he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, when a young woman opened the door, the boy was shy, so he just asked for some water. The woman knew he was hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much should I pay for it?" "You needn't pay for it. My mother has told me that it is good to help the people who are in trouble," she replied. The boy said, "Then I thank you from my heart." As the boy left that house, he felt stronger. He knew he had many things to do.

    Many years later, the young woman became ill. The local doctors couldn't save her. Her family had to send her to a big city. When the doctor knew who the woman was, he was excited and did his best to save her life. He succeeded. The woman needed to pay for the medical bill (账单). The doctor learned that she couldn't afford it, so he wrote something down on the medical bill. The woman read the bill, "You paid it with a glass of milk."
