Learning to set goals plays an important role as your child starts to gain independence. However, setting goals doesn't come naturally to your child, so helping him to learn the process should probably be one of your goals.

    Explain the word “goal”. Your child may know what a goal is when it comes to soccer, but he may not understand what it means in everyday life. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Listen to your child. Ideally, you want your child to be able to decide for himself what his goals are. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Let him talk about what he thinks he does well and what he thinks needs to improve. If he's stuck, you can provide some examples of your own personal goals.

    Help keep goals achievable. Don't throw cold water on your child. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, if your child wants to be a champion swimmer, but can't swim an entire lap of the pool yet, you can suggest he start by making that his first goal.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Help your child write down his goals in an easy-to-follow form. Being able to see and check off the steps on the way to his goal is the key in keeping him motivated. A really simple way is to have your child draw a ladder on a piece of paper, writing his goal at the top and each step to that goal on the rungs (横木). {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    Make a plan to learn new words. If you want to improve your vocabulary more quickly, you have to make at least a small promise. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Make you vocabulary practical（实用的）. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, learn more of your trade language—- the words that are commonly used in your business or hobby or vocation(职业). Find better, fresher, clearer words to express what your friends are talking about.

    Bullies come in all shapes and sizes. Over time, most of us have to deal with a bully or two. Bullying can threaten students' physical and emotional safety at school and can have a negative effect on their ability to learn. Here are some tips for you to avoid being bullied at school.

    Show smallest reaction to their bullying.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} So do not show the bullies that you feel hurt. Just walk away as if you didn't mind it. Reacting to them will only encourage them further.

    Feel your inner strength. Everyone has an inner strength to draw on; the problem with bullying is that many bullies try to make you feel that you have no this strength.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}In fact deep down you are stronger than they are.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Bullies may be less likely to target a big group of friends. They tend to pick on people they consider as defenseless or powerless. If you're always surrounded by people, a bully may avoid bothering you.

    Stay within eyesight of an adult. If you stay within the eyesight of an adult, bullies will typically stay away.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Therefore they avoid bullying others if a teacher or other adult is near. When at school, stay in areas where teachers and other adults are typically present

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Try a different way to school; if they can't find you, they can't bully you. Try your best to avoid them but don't show that you are avoiding them. They will usually read this as fear, and they will bully you more as a result.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} It is one thing to say it, but it can be even more meaningful to put it in writing. What if you made a commitment to write a thank-you note to someone every week?

Giving doesn't have to mean a life full of sacrifices. You can still buy a burger or get your nails done{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Donate the money you saves: Even $ 5 can make a difference in someone's life.
