Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the nine o'clock Mystery Hour. Today we'll show you two British stories. We hope you'll enjoy them.
About 900 years ago two green children arrived in a small village in south England. Their eyes and skin were green and they spoke a strange language. They were very tired and weak, so the people of the village looked after them. The boy died a year later, but the girl grew strong and lived the rest of her life there. And her skin colour turned back to normal day by day. Scientists say that sometimes of people don't have enough food to eat for a long time, their skin goes very pale and can even turn green.
Loch Ness is the largest lake in Scotland. It's a very deep and cold lake. For hundreds of years, people have talked about a monster(怪物) called Nessie which lives in the lake. About seventy years ago, two people saw something moving in the lake. They said that the animal was playing and rolling around in the water. Since then many people say they have seen the monster. Their descriptions are always the same. It looks like a dinosaur, with a very long neck and a small head. It has a big bump(包,肿块)on its back. People have tried to photograph the animal, but the pictures have not been very clear. Scientists don't know whether there is a monster or not. Some say it may be a whale or a very large fish. Some think it's a snake. Others say there's nothing at all— nothing but people's imagination. Maybe we'll never know what's in Loch Ness.

举一反三

Have you ever wanted to achieve something really amazing in life? Well, Greg Mortenson wanted to climb a mountain, but he ended up helping thousands of people to have a better life.

Greg's story began with failure. In 1993, he set out to climb K2, the world's second highest mountain. But Greg never made it to the top.  After five days, he stumbled(踉跄)into the village of Korphe in northern Pakistan, injured(受伤)and hungry. The kind villagers there looked after him for several days.

Greg saw that the villagers were very poor and hungry, and some of them were ill. Also, the village school didn't have a roof(屋顶)and the children wrote on the ground with sticks. Greg knew he wanted to do something to help. " I'll build you a school,”he told the villagers. “ I promise.”

Greg went back home to the USA to raise money for the school. He even lived in the car to save money! Finally he went back to Korphe and built the school. But this was just the beginning of something bigger! Since then, Greg's organization has built around 80 schools and runs many others in Pakistan and other countries, too.

Greg hasn't finished yet. He does many other things to help people in poor countries. He has got many prizes, but it's the smiles of the children he has helped that makes him happy!

Greg has just written a best-selling book about his story called Three Cups of Tea. It's an interesting and exciting book which tells us what ordinary(普通的)people can do with courage and determination(决心)!

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}So take action right now! Even a very small amount, like$1a month, will soon build up into a valuable contribution (贡献) to protecting the natural world we love so much. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}We'll also use it to develop ways to deal with environmental problems.

Think about it in another way. If you want a future where you can continue to do the things you love in the great outdoors, you need to make sure you've got great outdoors to do them in. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}And this way is simple enough—that's got to be worth $1 a month.

A. Giving GreenHome your support is one way that you can do.

B. But determination alone will not protect the environment.

C. That's why we're asking you to join us today.

D. And we won't just use it to stop bad things.
