“Do you like my dress?”a little girl asked a passing woman. “My mother made it for me,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“ Well, I think it's very beautiful, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  why are you crying?”asked the woman. The little girl answered, “After Mommy made me this dress, she had to go away. Daddy sai that she's up in heaven(天堂) with Grandparents.” The woman realized what the child meant and why she {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . She held the girl in her arms.

Then{#blank#}3{#/blank#}  , the little girl did something strange. She stopped crying, and began to sing. It was the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  sound the woman had ever heard, almost like the song of a very small bird. After the child stopped singing, she explained to the woman,  "Mommy had {#blank#}5{#/blank#} me the song before she went away. And she made me{#blank#}6{#/blank#}   to sing it whenever I started crying. She said it would make me stop." You see, now my eyes are dry.

As the woman turned to go, the little girl said to her, "Madam, can you wait just a minute? I want to show you{#blank#}7{#/blank#} ." "Of course", answered the woman. "What do you want me{#blank#}8{#/blank#} ?"

Pointing to a spot(斑点) on her dress, the little girl said, "Right here is where my Mommy kissed my dress, and here is another kiss, and here, and here…Mommy said that she put all those{#blank#}9{#/blank#}  on my dress so that I would have her love with me."

Then the woman realized that she no longer saw a little girl in a simple dress. She saw a child wrapped（包裹）in her {#blank#}10{#/blank#} love.

A professor(教授) told his students to go into the city slums(贫民窟) to study the life of 200 boys. He asked them to write reports about each boy's 1ife and future. One of the students wrote, “They don't have {#blank#}1{#/blank#} hope．”
Twenty-five years later，{#blank#}2{#/blank#} professor read about the earlier study. He told his students to find out {#blank#}3{#/blank#} had happened to the boys. They tried very hard and{#blank#}4{#/blank#} that 176 of the boys had become successful as doctors, teachers and scientists.
The professor was very surprised and{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to study it further．Luckily, all of them were living near the place and he was able to ask each one, “What made you successful?” Each one answered, “It was a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} .”
The teacher was{#blank#}7{#/blank#} living there, so the professor found her and asked the old woman what she had done to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} those boys out of the slums, and change them into{#blank#}9{#/blank#} people.
The teacher's eyes began to shine and said {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a sweet smile, “It's really very easy. I love those boys.”

Victor is seven years old and begins to school this fall（秋天）. He studies hard and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to his teachers. He is polite（有礼貌的）and has some friends. They all like him. It's Sunday today. Victor, his sister Tina and his mother stay at home. His mother is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some housework and he's watching TV and the girl is doing her homework. At eight thirty his father comes back with a bag of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . The boy likes {#blank#}4{#/blank#} very much and wants to eat some. His mother {#blank#}5{#/blank#} him four and says, “Which one do you want, Victor?”

   “The biggest（最大的）one，Mum. ”
   “What?” says his mother. “You should（应该）be polite and take the smallest one. ”
   “Should I tell a lie（撒谎）just to be polite, Mum?” says Victor.

    Walking down the city streets, you look up and see a red telephone box. Behind it, on the road, a big red double-decker bus {#blank#}1{#/blank#} by, carrying citizens and tourists. This is London. And the red bus has been a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the city.

    Modern transportation has changed the way we live. One important kind of transport has been the bus. In London, buses play a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} role than other kinds of transport. They are {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to go around the city. Red tourist buses have open roofs, which let people {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many photos as they drive past Big Ben, the Thames, the London Eye, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} so on.

But how did the bus become special to London culture? Horse-drawn buses have been used in London {#blank#}7{#/blank#} 1829. By the early 20^th century, motor-buses were driving around London. Bus companies used different {#blank#}8{#/blank#} at that time. The biggest company chose red. In 1933, when London transport was grouped into a single company, they chose {#blank#}9{#/blank#} most widely used color at that time—red.

    And so the color red stayed in London. But it was during the mid-1950s that the red double-decker was born. All of them were built {#blank#}10{#/blank#} 1954 and 1968. That is why they still look traditional.
