Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence(智力) and feelings.

    In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states(州) have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.

    The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ(智商) of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).

    Weather also has a strong influence on people's feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃, people become stronger.

    Low air pressure(气压) may make people forgetful(健忘). People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃.

    A lady wanted a birthday gift from her husband. For many months she had liked a beautiful ring, and knowing her husband could1it, she told him that was all she wanted. The Ugly Duckling

It'sa hot summer. The mother duck is looking at her1 . She is very happy, and she is waiting. "Quack ! Quack !" the baby ducklings(鸭子) come out one by one. But the biggest egg is still there. At last, the duckling comes out. This duckling is very2 and ugly(丑的) , so they all call him "the ugly duckling " .

The ugly duckling is lonely(孤独的). No one3 him. His brothers and sisters don'twant to play with him. The other ducklings say to their mother, "He is so ugly. He is not your child." The mother duck is very4 . The ugly duckling cries, then he goes away(离开).

He walks and walks. Then he sees a small house. In the house, there is an old woman and a dog. The ugly duckling asks, "Can5 stay here?" The old woman says, "OK. Come in." But the dog

doesn't like him. So he goes away again.

Madison Checketts is a 12-year-old girl from Utah, the USA. She has always loved the 1 . When on vacation with her family in California, she couldn't turn a blind eye to all the plastic water bottles 2 her favorite beaches. So she decided to focus on (专注于) 3 plastic litter.

When Madison started researching plastic water bottles online, she found that Americans use more than 35 billion plastic water bottles every year, and most of them are not recycled 4 .

Attalah James is an African American (美籍非裔) girl in the US. She is only 13 years old, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} she's thinking about her future. She {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in love with planes. Her dream is to become a pilot one day. 

"It would be great for me. You don't see many women pilots or African American women pilots, " says James. 

She' s right. There are no {#blank#}3{#/blank#} than 150 black woman pilots in the US. 

Daniel Wirt works at WAir Aviation. When he hears {#blank#}4{#/blank#} James' dream, he wants to help her. He takes her to fly in a plane. Before the plane takes off (起飞), he teaches James to prepare for the trip. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} does James feel about the trip? "It's amazing to fly high, " she says.
