How would you use a radio or a telephone if you had no electricity or batteries? This 1bothered（使烦恼）British inventor Trevor Baylis. Then he made a wind-up（装有发条的）radio. It doesn't need2or batteries. You wind it up3 hand. It plays for about an hour. Then, you wind it up again. Today it's 4 in South Africa.

    Then in 1999, Baylis invented a mobile phone that is powered by5. The shoes contain（含有）a small battery that is powered when you 6. This battery is7 to a mobile phone. These two simple inventions can bring modern communication to all parts of the world.

    Baylis didn't have a university degree in engineering. In 8he left high school before graduating（毕业）. He just loved9 things to help people. He never knew10 ideas would come to him. The idea for the telephone came to him in a dream.

    There are many different kinds of disasters around the world. As an adult you know what to do during a disaster, but what about the children? Some adults think it would probably never happen to them, so they don't teach their children what to do. Before it's too late, here are ways to help you prepare your children for a disaster.

    Educate: It is always good to let your children know about possible disasters. This doesn't mean children have to live in fear. When teaching them about disasters, keep the conversation positive (积极的) by telling them there is a solution (解决办法) to the disaster. Keep the conversations short, allow for questions and answer them honestly.

    Prepare: Always be prepared. And that is the best piece of advice for children. For example, when preparing for bad weather, get the tools you need, like candles, radios, food, water and medicine. Teach your children what is needed in certain disasters so that they know what is available for them, if ever needed.

    Plan: You should always have a plan for you and your children for any dangerous situation. Write out a simple list that they can read. The plan could start with "listen to an adult's advice and/or call 119".

    Practise: Once you have got the correct safety tools and worked out the right plan, practise every few months. Practising what to do during a disaster with your children will help them if the time comes.

    Disasters can't be avoided but they can belessened once you are prepared and ready for one.

Emma is a young mom and she is good at making bread. With enough eggs and flour（ 面粉），she can make all kinds of bread. In some of her bread，you can see pictures of famous paintings and many cartoon characters. For example，when you cut the Sponge Bob bread，you can see the face of Sponge Bob and some small pieces of bread. The small pieces of bread are all in the shape of the characters from the cartoon. There is a lot of fun in making bread. Emma's son gives her lots of great ideas. Once he drew a picture of happy bees（蜜蜂），and it wasn't long before they appeared in Emma's bread. Her son got a big surprise. From then on，Emma started to make such cute bread. "My little boy loves the bread，and he usually has two pieces for breakfast，"she said. From famous paintings to her son's favorite cartoon characters，Emma shows that there is no end to her imagination（想象力） when it comes to wonderful bread. What do you think of Emma's bread? Would you like to enjoy one piece of it?
