Jodie's Daddy is a Garbageman (垃圾清理工)

      Mr. Swales wanted to find out what his students' parents did. He had just called Jodie when some girls burst out laughing. Shirley shouted, “Jodie's Daddy is a Garbageman!”

      Everybody in the class laughed out loud, except Jodie. She felt her face turn red.

      “Silence!” Mr Swales said, “Being a garbagemen is a difficult and useful job. We should all be thankful to Jodie's father.”

      Jodie's father came to walk her home from school as usual, but she didn't run up to him the way she always did. When they got back home, Jodie went to her room and cried for a long time.

      Her father came into her room, “What happened, Jodie? Why are you so sad?”

      Jodie told her father what had happened and looked at him. He didn't seem angry or hurt. “Well,” he said, “they are right. Being a garbageman is a dirty job. Tomorrow's Saturday. Come to work with me, Jodie.”

      The place really smell too good. Jodie wrinkled her nose. “Don't worry, kid. In five minutes you won't smell a thing.” said her father.

      Everybody there was working hard, and they seemed to have a good time. Jodie's father handed her a pair of gloves and told her to get the little plastic bags and throw them into the truck.

      It was fun, but also hard work. Jodie's arms soom got tired. At last, no more garbage was left and Jodie felt very happy.

      “Garbage is disgusting, but when we clear it away, everything's nice and clean. You can make yourself happy only by making other happy. That's why I like being a garbageman so much.”

      Jodie give her dirty, smeely garbageman daddy a big kiss(吻). She said, “When I grow up, I will be a garbagegirl!”

      Now whenever someone asks Jodie what her daddy does, she says, “He's a garbageman! Everybody makes garbage, but my daddy takes it away!”

     A long time ago, there was an emperor. He had a beautiful garden. In the garden, there was a little nightingale(夜莺) singing very{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(beauty).

     One day the emperor heard about this little bird's beautiful voice. He asked his guards to bring her to him. As soon as the emperor heard the nightingale's voice, he said, "Put her in a golden cage,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}she can stay and sing for me whenever I want to hear her."

     The little bird was so{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(happy) about being kept in the cage that she{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(stop) singing one day. The emperor was very angry. He ordered the scientists in his palace to make a robot bird {#blank#}5{#/blank#} him. The bird could sing very beautifully,{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The emperor was pleased.

     Soon the robot bird became old. It no longer sang beautiful songs. Just at that time, the emperor became very weak. One morning, while{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(lie) in bed, the emperor wanted it to sing once again.{#blank#}8{#/blank#}the robot bird couldn't sing any more. Suddenly the nightingale landed on the window. She began to sing her{#blank#}9{#/blank#}beautiful song. The emperor was very happy! He became better and better each day.

     After the emperor was well，he changed a lot and became kind to his people. From then on, all his people cherished(爱戴) him for his love and{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (kind).

    Long ago there was a man with the name Smith. He made a living on making caps. One day he went to sell his caps. He went through a forest. There were many monkeys in it. It was very hot and the man wanted to rest a little. He came up to a large tree, put his caps on the ground, took one of them and put it on his head. Then he lay down and soon fell asleep.

    "Where are my caps?" Smith cried when he woke up. He looked up and saw many monkeys in the trees and each monkey had a cap on its head.

    "Give me back my caps!" The man shouted at the monkeys. But the monkeys didn't understand him. They only laughed. The man got very angry, took off his own cap, threw it on the ground and cried, "If you want all my caps, you may take this one, too!"

    And what do you think happened? The little animals did the same. Each monkey took off its cap and threw it on the ground. The man was very glad. He quickly collected all his caps and went on his way.

Nowadays too many people have to work at weekends. Some people don't {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Others think it's terrible. 

One woman thinks that working at the weekends can be dangerous. She is Kelly Smith. Mrs. Smith works in an office in Brighton, England. One Saturday, May 24, she went to the office to do some work. After she got into the lift, it stopped between the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Mrs. Smith couldn't get out of the lift. She began to shout, but no one heard him. Then Mrs. Smith {#blank#}3{#/blank#} that it was holiday in England. No one was going to work until Tuesday. With nothing to eat or drink, Mrs. Smith was very hungry and had to sleep most of the time. Early on Tuesday morning, her workmates came to work and found the lift {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. When the lift was opened, Mrs. Smith came out cold, weak and tried. She had been in the lift for more than 60 hours.

Now Mrs. Smith says, "I only use lifts if they have telephones in them!"

Peter is a 1 in the Sunshine Middle School. His 2 name is Brown. He is eight years old and he is in 3 , Grade 4. He likes 4 a lot because he thinks they are very cute. He often 5 about animals with his classmates.

Peter visits his uncle and aunt every summer. They 6 on a farm. They have many kinds of animals like cows, 7 , sheep and a big horse. Peter loves all the animals there.

This summer, he is going to 8 how to milk a cow. His 9 cannot believe (相信) it. "We get our milk from the 10 ," they say. "But our friend is going to get it from a cow."

Peter laughs. "Milk doesn't come from the store," he says. "Milk comes from a cow." His friends do not believe him so they 11 their teacher. The teacher says, "Peter is 12 . Milk comes from cows. Cows eat grass. They change (改变) the grass into milk. Then the farmer sells (卖) the milk. And we 13 it in the stores."

The teacher tells them one more thing, "Do you know that a cow has four stomachs (胃)?" The kids feel it is very 14 . They all want 15 to a farm to see the cows.
