    Brian was a funny student. He loved watching comedies（喜剧） best and hoped to become a comedy actor one day.

When he heard about the talent show to be held at this school, Brian decided to take part in. He had never acted on stage（舞台） before, and he was very excited. But some students laughed at him. “You are not funny but silly,” Ken, one of his classmates, said to his face. “No one will like what you do,” another boy also said to him, loudly.

Brian couldn't understand why they were so unkind to him. For a moment, he thought about giving up the show. But he remembered how much his friends liked his jokes, and also his teachers said he was very funny. So he decided to prepare for the show.

    Brian did a great job at the talent show. Everyone loved his performance, and he won the first prize! His teachers and friends were proud of him. Even so, Ken told Brian that he was not funny, and that he would never be successful. Brian didn't understand why Ken said so, but he realized that it had nothing to do with him. He confidently continued to work towards his goal.

   As the years went on, Brian met more people like Ken. “you'll do a terrible job,” they said to him. Luckily, most people encouraged him and some helped him to become even funnier. He got a lot of opportunities to perform in movies. He was even invited to appear on television. His fans thanked him because his comedies made them feel good when they were unhappy.

    Now Brian is a big comedy star! He is doing what he loves best. He never feels stressed like those unkind people, and he laughs all day long!

    My friend Mary came to school wearing a brand-new pair of Zee jeans. “Your new Zee jeans are so cute!” I said.

    “My grandma took me clothes shopping last weekend,” Mary said. “The Zee jeans were on sale. They have cool pockets and are unbelievably comfortable. When you're at my house after school, try them on and see for yourself.”

    “Hmm.” I didn't think so. But when I tried them on, I couldn't help agreeing. “I'm totally taking these!” I said. As soon as I got home, I told my mom that I had to get some Zee jeans.

    Mom said, “You already have three pairs of perfectly good jeans. There is no way Dad and I are paying that much for a pair of pants. If you want to buy them with your own money, I would be happy to make a long list of extra chores you can do.”

    “I'll start this minute,” I said.

It took me three weeks to save enough money. I changed kitty litter, watched my little brother and sister, and cleaned refrigerator. The refrigerator cleaning was the worst because one of the shelves fell while I was taking everything out. Food and milk splashed all over the floor. It took me one and a half hour to clean it up!

    Anyway, I finally bought my Zee jeans, and I loved them even more than I thought I would. I loved them half because they had cool pockets and super comfortable, and half because I had worked so hard to earn the money to buy them myself.

    Mr. Brown is 75 years old. He lives in a small village(村庄). Mr. Brown has three sons, David, Jeff and Stefan. They work in big cities. And they don't come to see Mr Brown very often.

    The sons feel sorry for their father, so they built(建造) a big house for Mr. Brown. And they give him much money(钱). But it doesn't make Mr. Brown happy. He always feels lonely.

    There is a school next to Mr. Brown's house. Some students often come and visit Mr. Brown. He says, "I don't want money. I want love. And the students give it to me. Love is not money. Love is company(陪伴)."

    One day, the Earth was very sick. He felt so bad that an earthquake happened. After the earthquake, it rained every day. Then the Sun told him to go to the hospital.

    The Moon looked at the Earth and said, "Look! Your skin should be the blue sea and the green land, but it is turning more and more yellow… "

    "It is the desert," the Earth said.

    The Moon put on her glasses and looked at him carefully. She saw that some people were cutting down trees near the desert.

    "I'll make these trees into chairs and beds. I'm going to get married in a few days," a young man said happily.

    "I want to make a wonderful piece of art with this tree," an artist with long hair said.

    "I'm too poor and I have a big family. I need to sell these trees to make money," an old man said while cutting down the small trees.

    "Winter is coming! I need more wood to make my house warmer," an old woman said.

    At that moment, a truck came with giant machines. A group of men got off the truck.  They began to cut down the trees with the machines quickly. Soon, all the trees disappeared and the truck took them away.

    The Earth began to cry. The Moon was too surprised to do anything. The desert laughed at the Earth, "Ha! Ha! You have nothing to do with me!"

    My grandfather Jack is 96 years old, and he has an interesting life. He has travelled a lot in his life in the Far East. He visited the Taj Mahal in India and the Pyramids, in Egypt. He hunted (狩猎) lions in Africa, and rode a camel in the Sahara Desert. He says the most beautiful place he has travelled to is Kathmandu in Nepal.

    Jack has married twice. His first wife died when she was 32. He met his second wife Maria while he' was cycling round France. They have been married for 50 years, and they have lived happily in a small village since they got married.

    Jack says that he has never been ill in his life. The secret of good health, according to my grandfather, is exercise. He goes swimming every morning. He has done this since he was a boy. He also has a glass of wine every night! Perhaps that is his secret!
