People around the world work together to help our planet on Earth Day, April 22. But in fact, lots of people protect the Earth all year long. They are Earth heroes(英雄). And some kids do, too. We have four kids here, telling you that you can help even if you are a child.

Saving the frogs

John is from the USA. He always loves frogs. When John was 5, he learned their living places were in danger. So John started a group, For the Love of Frogs. They sold toy frogs to collect money to help frogs. John is now 10 and the group has more than $ 20,000 to protect frogs!

Growing right

Mandy lives in a city in India. She saw a wasteland near her house at 15. She turned it into a garden. She used native plants that lived or grew around her city. Native plants could make insects like butterflies and animals come to her area.

Mandy is now 18. She is teaching people about native plants." The way to reuse the wasteland is not just to plant any tree," she said." It is to make sure that you grow the right plants in the area."

Cleaning up

Zhang Min, 13, and Zhang Jie, 15, live in a city in China. To fight plastic pollution, they made a plan. They wanted to clean up plastic waste in the Pearl River.

Zhang Min and Zhang Jie put up posters at school to make people care more about plastic waste." You need to have people talk to one another," Zhang Jie said," Everyone can do something to help."

When Mary was a student, she wanted to be a 1 because she liked children. 2 she was twenty, she began teaching in a small school. She is a good teacher now, and she3 a lot with the children in her class, and the children enjoy her4 . 

One day, 5 of the girls in her class asks her, "Miss Smith, why does a man's hair become grey(灰色)6 his beard(胡子)does?"

Mary laughs and answers, "I don't know. Helen, do you know?"

"I don't know7 , Miss Smith, " says Helen, "but it happens to my father. " The8 children in the class laugh when they hear this. 

Then a boy says, "I 9 Miss Smith! A man's hair becomes grey first because it's sixteen years10 than his beard. "

The class laugh loudly. 

It was last winter. My wife Ella, our little dog Floopy and I were driving home. We had a holiday with our parents in Cambridge. We had to spend eight hours {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (drive) home. Floopy was not happy because she had to stay in the car all day. She jumped here and there. "Put her in the back seat and give her something {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (drink)." I said to Ella. Just then she jumped on my right arm and there was big bang at once. Our car crashed into a truck in front and caught fire. A moment later, the police arrived and they got us out of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} car. "Oh, poor Floopy is still in the car!" Ella cried and ran back to the burning car before the police could stop {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (she). She opened the door but found Floopy wasn't there. While she was running back to us, there was a big sound. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} dangerous it is! We looked everywhere but didn't find Floopy, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} we had to start again for home, feeling sad.

Two {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (month) passed. It was about half past two in the morning and Ella was lying awake in bed. She had dreamed about Floopy. Suddenly she {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (hear) a strange sound. She woke me up and said to me {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (quiet). "Listen! Isn't that a thief (小偷)?" We came downstairs with a stick in the hand. There! The sound was coming {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the back door. Then I opened the door. To our great surprise, it was Floopy!

We work in the Lost and Found Office at a city airport. It's not hard but a little  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . People often leave things on waiting rooms' chairs. We write down the information on the notice board and put it online. If you leave something here, please come to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} office.

Yesterday, I had a fight {#blank#}1{#/blank#} my friend over a small thing. We planned to meet at the park, but I read a book about a cat team flying through the sky and fighting{#blank#}2{#/blank#} bad people, so I was late. When I arrived there, he had left. Later, I found he had gone home because he thought I hadn't come. Then we fought {#blank#}3{#/blank#} who cared about the plan more. Finally, his mother told us it was wrong. We have learned that we need to fight {#blank#}4{#/blank#} our friendship and solve the problems actively.
