Hello! I'm Scott. The old woman on the sofa is my grandmother. She is 78 years old, but she is very healthy.

    Every morning, she gets up at 6:00 o'clock. And then she does some exercise for half an hour. For breakfast, she usually has a cup of milk, some bread and an egg. After breakfast, she always goes to the art club. She teaches the people to draw pictures. In the afternoon, she often goes to the park (公园) with her friends. She likes dancing very much.     One sunny afternoon, I went for a walk on the beach. There I saw a special crab (螃蟹). It had two claws (螯).一个螯比另一个人螯大得多、长的多。I had never seen such a crab before. So on my way home from the beach, I walked into the library.

    Luckily, I found a book named Come with me to the Edge of the Sea. It had many pictures of animals living near the sea. The pictures of male fiddler crabs (雄性招潮蟹) looked quite like the crab I found on the beach. I learned a lot about that kind of crab.

    Sometimes a fiddler crab puts the small claw across the big one. It looks like it is playing the fiddle (violin) when it does this, so some people call it the fiddler crab Sometimes it waves its big claw. It looks like it is saying hello. That's why other people call it the calling crab. Fiddler crabs' eyes are on long eye stalks (眼柄). They can put up their eye stalks to look around~ It makes them look taller.

    These crabs are very small. There are lots of other, bigger beach animals that want to eat them. They dig holes in the sand (在沙子里挖洞). The holes are their homes. They are safe inside them. Sometimes the sea water can bring food into their holes.

    Rainforests are magical(神奇的)places on earth, full of life and beauty. They are homes, to millions of birds, insects, animals, and plants. These forests are the world's natural treasure(财富).

    Most rainforests are near the equator(赤道). Some of the largest are in Brazil, South Asia and Central Africa. There are several kinds. Each has different levels of rainfall and different types of soil and temperature.

    In equatorial rainforests, the temperature stays between 25 and 35 degrees during the year. These rainforests get a lot of rain-as much as 4, 000 millimeters per year. Monsoon rainforests are very different. They have long dry periods. Also, their temperature can change a lot from season to season.

    Rainforests are important for many reasons. One is their great diversity(多样性)of life. There are millions of species of insects, animals, and plants. Scientists still don't know about most of them yet. Many rainforest plants could help us make new medicines. Rainforests also keep the soil strong. And they may be important to the earth's climate.

    Unfortunately, rainforests are getting smaller every year. Farmers burn down trees for land. Large companies cut down trees for their valuable wood. Other companies build mines near forests.

    Environmental groups are trying hard to save the rainforests. Hopefully they can, before they're all gone.
