Why it is so difficult to find English food in England? In England, it is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(easy) to find Indian and Chinese restaurants than English ones. In London, you can eat dishes almost around the world, but where are the English restaurants?

It is not only in restaurants that foreign dishes are taking the place of {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(tradition) British food. In every supermarket, spaghetti(意面) and pizza are more popular. Why has this happened? What is wrong with the cooks of Britain that they prefer cooking spaghetti to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(potato)? Why do the British now like cooking in wine and olive oil? That's {#blank#}4{#/blank#} they can get ingredients(食材) from all over the world in just a few hours. Anyway, was the English food always terrible and tasteless? The answer to this question is "No". {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(understand) this, you have to go back before World War I.

{#blank#}6{#/blank#} fact, the British have always imported(进口) food from abroad. From ancient times, foreign trade was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} main influence on British cooking. English kitchens got ingredients from all over the world. All of them {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(use) in British dishes successfully. Another important influence on British cooking was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(certain) the weather. For the British, the good old rain gives {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(they) rich soil and green grass. That means they are able to produce some of the finest meat, fruit and vegetables, which don't need many sauces(调料) to cover their taste.

To be honest, no matter how old we are, most of us love it when our parents do things for us. It makes our lives much {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(comfortable), and we have less to worry about.

Some parents have prepared almost everything for their children {#blank#}2{#/blank#}they were born. They consider their grown-up children (sometimes even adults) as babies! They are afraid to let their children go anywhere or do anything by {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(them). As a result, their children fail to learn social {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(skill), and come to depend more on parents!

Therefore, some experts suggest that children shouldn't be taken good care of by their parents all  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} time. Children need their own time {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(develop) into adults and to learn how to deal with problems. It is not necessary for parents {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(care) too much about the safety of their children. Too much care breaks their fun when they are growing up. Although they may get into trouble when they can't depend {#blank#}8{#/blank#} their parents, they can learn a lot.

It is nice that parents show their care and attention to their children. It is nice that children know that their {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(parent) care is the result of love. And it will be nicer if they are the children who can let their parents know how much love they {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(real) need and how much love is too much. Try to let children go and make them independent.

When I first went to Britain，a lot of things seemed strange to me. For example，people drove on the left side of the road and many people carried an umbrella all the time. There were also many other things that I found really surprising. 

The first thing I noticed was how polite British people were. When I got on the bus，the driver would greet me；when people got off the bus，they would say "Thank you" to the driver；when I went into a shop，I would be greeted by a smiling salesman. 

The family I stayed with were very nice，but their house was full of peculiar（奇怪的）things. Firstly，there were carpets everywhere，even in the bathroom. Also，the bathroom was full of surprises. The first time I tried to wash my hands I burned myself. The cold and hot water came out of different taps. Then，when I tried to dry my hair，I couldn't find a socket（插座） for my hairdryer. Maybe that wasn't such a big surprise. More surprising was the fact that British people didn't take their shoes off when they went into a house—can you imagine？

I guess that for British people all of these things are normal. It's only when you visit a foreign country that you realize that what you think is normal is not. Normality depends on where you are. 

Sometimes when the rain falls hard and fast on you, it might hurt a little. But what happens when it hits a mosquito(蚊子)?

In 2012, David Hu, a scientist at Georgia Tech, became interested in this problem and decided to do a research. He used a high- speed camera so that he could watch the mosquitoes in very slow motion and find out what they' re doing when they' re out in the rain.

What he found is that when a raindrop falls on a mosquito, it's like when a bus hits a person. Besides, the little insect(昆虫) is hit by a raindrop about once every 20 seconds. So why don't we see many dead mosquitoes after it rains?

A mosquito is as big as a raindrop, but it is much lighter—0.002g only. This saves its life in raindrop hits. Because the mosquito is so light, when it is hit by a raindrop, it won't experience a force that is strong enough to kill it.

The study also found that when a mosquito is hit by a raindrop, the insect is pushed by the raindrop and falls together with it. But the mosquito doesn't get wet easily because it is covered with hairs which keep off water. After dropping about 6 cm, it will roll off the raindrop and fly away.

However, this trick isn't always successful. If the mosquito flies too low when it is hit by the raindrop, it won't have time to fly off. Then it will hit the ground and meet its death.

Our school will hold(举行) English Week next week. There will be a lot of activities.
