    One day last November, Liz Douglas went shopping. She spent hours at the supermarket. After she paid for all the things she bought, she went back to her car and put the shopping bags on the back seat (后座) of the car. Then she started to drive home.

    Ten minutes later, it began to rain heavily. Soon, Liz found it hard to see the road clearly. There was a lot of water on the road, so she drove slowly. Although Liz was an experienced driver, she felt afraid.

Her head was free and she only had a few cuts. Liz's son went to get the things Liz bought from the car and gave the bag of bread to her. She was going to keep it as a souvenir (纪念品) because it brought her good luck.

    We spent this holiday with our uncle. He loved to go on walks to collect stones. One day, he bought us backpacks(背包） and asked us to go to the mountain with him and carry the stones.

    The whole day we walked around. Every now and then he put stones in our bags. To our surprise, he also took some stones out from our bags. But we thought he had just found better ones.    Eileen Collins is the first woman ever chosen to be a spaceship pilot. She is also the first woman to be a leader in a spaceship. Today she has flown for more than 5,000 hours in more than 30 kinds of airplanes.

   Talking about high school, she said, "I began reading all kinds of books about famous women pilots. These women went and flew into dangerous places. Their stories encouraged me." In 1977 Eileen got a pilot's license (证件) and the following year she finished her university. She went into space in 1999 at the age of 43. She took the hopes with her and dreams of a nation of young people on the earth.

   Eileen is not only an astronaut, but also a wife and the mother of a young daughter. She has short curly hair and friendly brown eyes. She met her husband, Pat, while they were together in the air force (空军).

   When she was named as the First Woman Spaceship Commander (指挥官) in 1998, Eileen smiled and said, "When I was a child, I dreamed about space.
